Big FPS drop on crossing chunk boundaries
Solved: 1.19 vanilla issue, fixed in 1.20
Getting some strong FPS drops upon crossing chunk boundaries, from 130fps to 10 or lower for half a sec
Stronger when it is the first time I load the chunk upon joining world (not just world generation, loading the chunk, if I'm crossing between 2 chunks repeatedly, the issue still happens, but it's 130 to 30 and not to 10 and lower)
As far as I can tell, it's not linked directly to world gen or DH world gen, although the issue is much worse when I do have to generate chunks
It's only a fps drop, tps doesn't, well except when it hangs when I just fly at max speed and eventually cause the game to crash
Error on chunk generator, dunno if it's relevant

config should be the default one
1.19.2 + Forge
(also tested on Fabric, but only with nightly, same issue)
Very few mods loaded (DH (tried RC2 and nightly, both same behaviour), spark (for tps testing, didn't show anything of substance), better F3 and it's dependency, cloth config API)
Just DH, just tried it, both nightly and RC2
Do I need to make an issue on GitLab with more info?
Just tested it in vanilla, no DH, I do still see a fps drop, but it doesn't go as low as 10-20 fps, maybe 300 to 60 (big drop, but heh, I don't need 600 fps)
So I don't think It's an issue per say, rather a performance requirement, it does make it unplayable on on a 1060 6GB tho which I find a bit weird...

Are you also experiencing this in vanilla? I believe 1.19 had this bug, but was resolved in 1.20
Sorry, should've read the whole thing
If it's also in vanilla, I don't think there's anything you can do
Haha

I would swear about the bot, but unfortunately it would get removed.
it is a bit aggressive
okay welp, gonna have to wait a bit for mods to get updated to 1.20 then... was hoping to get a nice kitchensink modpack going, but 1.20 is a bit too new for that
just gonna try to replicate in 1.20 to be sure, but it sounds like it won't happen there
Can confirm that on fabric 1.20.1 + DH nightly, and fps are much tamers (still some small drops but that's more in line with what you would expect and not the huge game killers)
Although with DH they still do drop more than in vanilla, but I suppose that's kinda expected, and is still playable
Thanks for your time!
Although I couldn't get the nightly or the RC2 1.20.1 forge build to work: https://mclo.gs/MeMXd2d
Should I make a separate bug report? Or this is normal since this is a nightly?
Is it also failing with the vanilla launcher?
There's a vanilla bug that causes a lag spike when crossing chunk boundaries, you need Debugify or another mod that fixes this issue
23w16a, is when it was fixed.
checking, also prismlauncher was out of date, so I'm updating that as well and see if it changes anything
Welp, the 'official' package for arch for the minecraft-launcher doesn't seem to work for me (as in exit code 0 immediately upon starting, don't see any spawned processes either) I might try on another computer that might have a cleaner install with less baggage
Updating prismlauncher didn't fix the issue either
On the other computer, it does work with the official launcher (Also, I never realized how powerful the prismlauncher is, until I tried to make it work with the official launcher)
I'm gonna try with the prism-launcher on the other computer too, because I bet it's just a case of broken nvidia drivers, wouldn't be a first on the original computer
(It has seen things few computers see and live to tell the tale)
can confirm that it does work on prismlauncher on the other computer, So most likely a broken driver or something like that , not an issue then
It does help quite a bit, tho 1.20 seemed smoother, definitly helps for 1.19 modpack
cool!
