What CPU architectures are supported for Bazzite?
I know really stupid question but I am trying to install Bazzite on my old laptop to turn into a mini home console for light gaming but I can't seem to get it to either boot properly or install at all. For context the CPU on the device is a 4th gen i3 so I don't know if I am wasting my time or not

Should support any x86_64 CPU
If that's the case I am very confused. When I get home I will send logs
hey you can still send logs but try using the stock Fedora Silverblue or Fedora Kinoite ISO and rebase
see if the installer even comes up
like i have an older 2005 gateway x86_64 PC that won't boot any Fedora at all.
just would not reach the installer
workstation, silverblue, any of the spins, etc
Installer comes up like half the time sometimes it hangs
but it will outright refuse installation
It's weird because I've installed every single distro under the sun
Arch, Ubuntu, Opensuse, Gentoo, etc
If you're able to boot a stock silverblue or kinoite installer, just install those and then rebase
Sure
Seems like it's working fine in the installer currently. It has so far gotten much further than the Bazzite installer has
It actually made it to the Installation Progress menu and is writing objects
Nevermind I got this
Connected to internet?
Wonder if it's due to flatpak 🤔
I will install bazzite on the usb and show what error appeared on that and you could probably use it to make a correlation
So somehow it ended up getting past the installations lol. But now I can't get past this
Accept button does nothing
@EyeCantCU
Finally someone else with this
All right. I'll make it a package. Just a sec. Really weird issue
With a big warning label
Oh so it's a bug?
yeah it's only been a little over week since bazzite has released so a lot of new findings have occurred but it's great that new users are pointing them out
so thank you
Oh yeah np. Mainly want to try this out before I inevitably replace SteamOS on my Deck
yeah i feel like the deck image seems to have a lot less issues in general actually
i used to run it on mine, but i had the 64GB so it only booted half of the time due to some weird upstream issue
but even in the pre-release days it was really stable... besides you know the 64GB emmc deck issues lol
I wouldnt know, I replaced the SSD on my Deck
yeah im a doofus and won't do that until the emmc is dead
im on main channel right now with steamOS 3.5 using steamOS-btrfs payload
it's ok lol
almost like bazzite besides being able to layer packages which would have been cool
lol
nice
So update: the next button worked after a lot of time waiting (aka me forgetting it was still up) and I finally finished the installation
However now I'm a bit lost on where pacman is? I installed bazzite-arch so I'm not sure why I can't use it
distrobox enter bazzite-arch
sudo pacman -S package
paru -S package
distrobox-export --app package
Ah it's done thru distrobox
Gotcha. Thanks
np
Says no such container exists despite me installing it
distrobox list
does it show up?No
List is completely empty
oh wow
I'm starting to have suspisions that my laptop might just be a piece of shit
But I'm not at that point of fully understanding how Linux works yet so I have no clue
here:
wait
what GPU vendor?
AMD, intel, or nvidia?
distrobox create --image ghcr.io/ublue-os/bazzite-arch --name bazzite-arch
in a terminal (Konsole on KDE, Terminal on GNOME)
distrobox create --nvidia --image ghcr.io/ublue-os/bazzite-arch --name bazzite-arch
if you have nvidia
that should get it to start
btw since you mentioned that you just plan to put it on deck
the deck images don't use distrobox
they just layer steam and lutris as native packages
to match SteamOS especially since Game Mode is basically using Steam as a desktop environmentIntel
okay yeah
distrobox create --image ghcr.io/ublue-os/bazzite-arch --name bazzite-arch
Cool thanks
This info is extremely helpful
one last question, how's SMT on Bazzite? Emulation has issues on regular steamos so I want to know if that issue is or isn't present on Bazzite
SMT issue was fixed on SteamOS 3.5 and it shouldn't even exist on Bazzite to begin with
it was kind of just an error with SteamOS
that they now resolved
SteamOS 3.5 still isn't out which is why I asked. Thanks
haha lol yeah the beta channel just updated to SteamOS 3.4.10
SteamOS 3.5 is gonna go Half Life 3 at this point
I just want to see the HDR kernel changes make it upstream
steamos should have podman preinstalled as well maybe even waydroid
currently waydroid wouldnt even work on steamOS
stable channel still on the 5.15 linux kernel and desktop mode runs in X11
so there is no wayland on steamos?
well

theres this hellish guide
Gist
Install Waydroid on Steam Deck (As of 2023-07-25)
Install Waydroid on Steam Deck (As of 2023-07-25). GitHub Gist: instantly share code, notes, and snippets.
actually not too bad
you're just running a script
the caveats tho
i guess it does work
Right
Steam input is X only
Wayland on steam deck can't work as a result
Would work in game mode
wait, but I thought waydroid is included on the steam deck version of bazzite
We have Wayland
yeah that's good. so steamos doesn't even have a wayland option?
Right
Only game mode
on steamos or bazzite?
steamOS
there's no wayland option for desktop mode
on bazzite you can choose between both x11 and wayland
Game mode is Wayland on both
that's good
Desktop is X only on SteamOS
It's Wayland or X on Bazzite, and hopefully Wayland by default soon
does X even support touch screen usage
Yes but it crashes in gnome
wait, touching the screen crashes GNOME?
Yeah, tap the top bar in X to crash instantly lol
not an issue in wayland?
Right
that's good
