Coat fit advice and what to wear with it
How does this fit? Should I have the waist taken in a bit at the tailors?

Looks fine. I rarely think a coat like this needs waist taper.
Agree, fit is fine and getting the waist brought in would ruin the fit when sitting, layering, as well as the fit in the arms
It’s already pretty slim, no need to alter the waist
definitely don't taper it, a peacoat is intended to fit like a box and be worn over other layers
this can work over anything but the traditional sailor fit was over dungarees so jeans plus a work shirt is pretty decent
more rugged chinos will also work, I would just caution against going too slim in the pants because you will look like a popsicle
