[player] lost connection: failed to verify username
Today one of my players (using badlion client) of my small smp running on fabric had issues connecting to the server. As ive never seen this issue before, i am asking if i as the serverowner can do anyting to prevent this issue to happen and if so what.
After reloading the whitelist and him refreshing his serverpage the issue seemed resolved only for it to happen again a few minutes later.
Heres the log from my console (ip censored for obvious resons but its the same player joining/disconnecting each time)

Please check your server log for errors from your plugins.
If you need further help understanding the errors, please send us the whole log file.
Where can I find the server log?
Logs are stored in
<server_directory>/logs/
. Search for a file explorer in your server's management interface and navigate to that directory. Once you've opened that up, search for the latest.log
file. Some providers have a separate page for logs and may hide the "logs" folder.
On Aternos:
• Go to https://aternos.org/log/.
On Minehut and server.pro:
• Go to the "files" tab in the left menu.
• Navigate to the root directory of your server.
• From there navigate to /logs/latest.log
.
What should I do with the log?
• First of all, read it! I mean, that's what you do all the time when you run a server, isn't it? Try to locate any errors that have anything to do with the issue you are facing.
• If you got the latest.log
file or created a .txt
file with the necessary errors you can upload these directly to the channel, but we prefer if you upload them to https://mclo.gs/.
• If you have trouble downloading the log file, copy/paste the text to a paste service (like mclogs). Copy the link that it gives you and send it to us. (Don't worry, McLogs hides your users' IPs.)Admincraft Canned Responses
Is this an offline server?
Seems to be online based from the UUIDs
Its an online server running fabric for 1.20.1 using autoplug if that makes a difference
Will do as soon as i can
Autoplug as in automatic updates?
https://autoplug.one/
Thats their website, all they do is keep plugins and serversoftware up to date
Also makes setup a bit easier

heres the logs from both startup and the timeframe where the issue persisted
i am relatively new to serverhosting and cant really see any issues that might be serversided but i could just aswell be totally wrong
Cracked servers don't verify usernames.
User should try restarting his pc, if that doesn't work use the vanilla client.
Alr, we'll try, just didnt want to be that guy that tells players what client to use esp. if it works fine for other servers.
Thanks to both of you for your help, ill come back to this thread if the issue persists
Be careful with that
Do not let it auto update because who knows, a mod update could break something
Although if it allows you to check for updates & confirm to update, it would be hot
yeah, its never recommend to do any kind of auto updates. if any mod changes something major (intentional or a major bug in an update) and u update, ur server can instantly lose data and or be corrupted
if for what so ever reason u decide to still use an auto update (not rec) pls make sure ur doing automated backups on everything necesary before the auto update
Ofc, i an doing daily restarts and backups to my nas which is also done though autoplug, probably not the best way but it works for now
ultimateautorestarts, and Drivebackupv2
thx for the reccomendation, gonna use them the next time ill set up a new server
Issue still persists after pc restart, using vanilla client and server restart. Strangely works after a random amount of time/spamming the refresh button. Also this time its a different person/player connecting from a different network

Leads me to believe its a serversided issue, have done some research and tried common fixes from random articles/reddit posts, sadly nothing seemed to work
It's usually not server sided. Usually client sided.
If the server logs say ID=NULL for example, that's client sided.
Well since i really dont know ahat to do to fix it and seeing as i dont get logs that tell me anything i am just going to blame it onto the players and tell them to try, try, try again or smth like that...
Anyways thanks for your help
