depends on version, needs etc
fabric for newer versions and server-sided mods mostly
forge is good for older ones
I'm still not sure which version. Which is better for performance?
both, with the right plugins
Fabric
Usually
Forge can run nice too if you take care of it
"plugins"
-.-
https://fabricmc.net/use/server/
Are you referring to this one? I thought there would be a fork the same way there is purpur, etc.
there isnt a fork of fabric you should use imo
Fabric is just fabric
A whole modding plataform
Like forge
oops, mods*
I never had any interest in quilt
quilt isn't a fabric fork afaik
iirc it has a mod that allows compatibility for fabric mods
modded server software aren't much of a talk since all of the other softwares will never reach the point forge / fabric has gotten to
Neoforged might
forge has an extremely big mod library, while fabric has an ever-growing (fastly at that) big mod library
i did think about adding a
(neo)
before the forge, but nah its a forge fork with barely anything changed imoDoesn't it have some new stuffs because some internal tools were owned by lex?
hmmm
if it changed quite a lot that means most forge mods won't work
forge == neoforge?
neoforged == forge + drama
drama?
yea
people hate lex, a dev of forge
they created a whole new fork just to get rid of him
Wow. So is neoforge not better than the original forge?
it is a fork of forge, so basically it is better
So fabric >> forge >> neoforge?
set fabric aside, then it will be complete
fabric is a completely different project, not supposed to have any connections with each other
In which case should I choose fabric?
I'm confused on the difference between fabric and forge. Aren't they both platforms for mods?
If you don't want mods that add stuff like lots of tech, or random shenanigans like mods about videogame franchises
they have different mods
Yeah but they're very different so not every Dev will support both
Mekanism is forge only
Ad astra is forge and fabric
A good mod called kibe which is helpful for some technology, liquid transfers and stuffs is fabric only
Applied engineeristics 2 supports forge and fabric
Create has got a whole team for fabric development
Oh, okay. I want to create a medieval-style RPG. Which is best for me?
Research the mods u want
https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/franciscofunari for e.g. this one is for forge and fabric
And is about medieval stuffs
Okay. Besides the mods, is there anything else that will differentiate the two?
The general optimization mods
Fabric has got plenty
Many are unofficially ported to forge tho and the ports usually are good
Avoid optifine at all costs

Also fabric has got maaany mods that effectively replace many optifine features
CIT resewn
Entity texture features, optigui, etc
I think forge has got some too
Which usually are needed for some resource/textute packs
Not mods
one thing that upsets me tho is that i used to use a lot of optifine resourcepacks but now i can't use them anymore since im so obsessed with the fabric mods that i use now
for example there is glowing ores pack
it relies heavily on optifine for the shader-like feature
This is a difficult question
obviously
Try to get fabulously optimized
fabric and forge are basically the same; just that forge has been in the community for so long and fabric is revolutionary
It had something for that
hm ok
I could x-ray with it & the ores weren't dark, they were lit, so I guess it had something for lighting
Does Forge have any forks?
Right now neoforged
@Deleted User
Actually what's your mc version you're planning to work on
This is pretty important
I suggest you to use 1.19.2 if you want to have lots of mods
With active support
And neoforged is 1.20.1
Prior to that, there's only normal forge
1.19.2 or 1.20.1
I did some research with fabric, but it's missing a lot of important mods
I'm deciding between the two versions
1.19.2 will have more mods than 1.20.1
Do not think of using 1.19.3 or 1.19.4 tho
And the performance?
No diff
Almost to no diff
1.20.1 has a new light engine but having starlight mod in 1.19.2 is the same
But there's almost no diff in performance
