it's been fine recently but out of no where it now looks like this and I didn't even change it or anything either.

what plugin do you use? none at all?
it might have to do with what client you're using
for my MOTD specifically or in general?
cause I have around 50+ plugins but I do not use any for my MOTD I just use the server.properties
hm
try using a plugin like MiniMOTD
Modrinth
MiniMOTD - Minecraft Plugin
Minecraft plugin/mod to set the server list MOTD using MiniMessage for formatting, supporting RGB colors.
maybe but I didn't really do anything with it, I've been running the same optifine client.
are you using a texture pack
oh wait i just realized those sword and pickaxe ones aren't actual unicodes
I'm using faithful
turn it off
see what happens
atm its late where I am so I'm boutta head to bed but I'll try all of these solutions when I wake up
I'll update you guys on what happens
also check if its only on your side?
cuz it might be cuz of the pack as stated above
https://mcsrvstat.us
Check without the pack yeah
tbh looks like the server isnt running with utf8
minecraft modifys some of the unicode characters and replaces them woth their own texture for them
the pickaxe and sword are both just replaced characters
oh
so it does exist?
it does
where would i find it
https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Resource_pack
scroll down to emoji
Minecraft Wiki
Resource pack
The resource pack system provides a way for players to customize textures, models, music, sounds, languages, texts such as the end poem, splashes, credits, and fonts without any code modification.
gives a list of replaced unicode characters
that is quite interesting
still, this looks like either the server or client isnt running utf8 since
@kat use https://mcsrvstat.us/
and see if the motd shows up the same as it is to your client
SpigotMC - High Performance Minecraft
motd.gg
This is what I use. It pulls up an intuitive ui in your web browser where you can edit the motdgg. I would recommend using the plugin instead of just a web browser ui because it saves your existing motd for easy editing
Of course you still have to change it in server.properties but that’s just a copy and paste
just checked and it's still all bugged out
then its a server side issue
I'm just so confused about how I haven't changed anything about the server yet this randomly happens, but ofc fixing the issue is definitely the priority. Idk I just can't wrap my head around it.
try adding
-Dfile.encoding=UTF-8
to your startup flagsCheck it without any client resource packs.
client side isnt the issue now
its been ruled out
Where?
I see where you use mcsrvstat.us, but not where it was client without resource packs
Just trying to cover all bases :NODDERS:
this looks off, definitly mcsrvstat.us right?
for sure, I clicked onto the link you sent
ah it doesnt wrapper around like mc client does
also just for extra measure I checked without a resource pack lol, still looks the same
definitly try this
And show us what's in your motd in your server.properties
Send screenshot :NODDERS:
if its showing up on mcsrvstat.us as the same funky shit then its definitly not a clientside issue
?
Could be missing fonts in the browser
theyd show up as boxes, not as that
Good point
usually that issue is caused by not using utf8 encoding
it's worked for the past two days, it just randomly switched to this
I used this to make it: https://motd.gg/JAmVku6Y
Minecraft Server - motd.gg
Open to view and edit this MOTD on motd.gg.
I didn't ask for that, please send what you have put in your motd field
ye I know I'm getting it rn
motd=§l §c §k-\=- §e🗡§bKatCraft §2Towny§e⛏ §c§k-\=-§r
§l §6 -\=| §a1.17.1§6-§d1.20.1§6 |\=-
§l §c §k-=- §e🗡§bKatCraft §2Towny§e⛏ §c§k-=-§r
§l §6 -=| §a1.17.1§6-§d1.20.1§6 |=-
Is what that link gave me
Close but definitely not the same thingI tried using the
§l §c §k-=- §e:dagger:§bKatCraft §2Towny§e⛏ §c§k-=-§r
§l §6 -=| §a1.17.1§6-§d1.20.1§6 |=-
version instead to see if that workedit wouldnt
since motd doesnt parse color codes using §
also excuse discord immediately changing the emoji to :whateverthisis:
if you were using a plugin then it would since most of them do parse using color code symbol
should I try a plugin next?
are you using a host?
nah I'm self-hosting it if thats what you're asking
what os are you hosting it on?
windows? mac? linux? etc
ubuntu server 22
linux
running it through MCSManager
id suggest just trying using an motd plugin instead of the default motd found in server.properties
i think minimotd what the one people suggest to use
should I erase the server.properties motd or does it override it?
The plugin install docs will tell you
gotcha imma go check it out
I don't mean that in an asshole way, I simply don't know and know the docs should tell you
of course, I understand that
thanks for clarifying though
it will override it afaik
it works! but I do have to add the coloring since the way minimotd does coloring is different (<red>,, etc.) which I actually like way better than a bunch of confusing unicode that'd I normally just make through a website for making motd's
thanks y'all 😁
