rendering in davivinci with a 4070

For some reason when I render a video in resolve it makes the size of file 20gb even though its only 30minutes. The options I had were mp4 h265 and the quality set as auto with best selected In dropdown. There the same settings I used with my 5700xt but with the 4070 the files come out big.

It sounds a touch high, sure. What resolution and framerate is this?

Then its just because the content is very complex. From what I can tell, resolve uses CQP with a quant of 16 (for the settings you describe). This will be very high quality, and the bitrate is just whatever is required. There is no bitrate target if you want visual quality to be worse, and have the files be smaller, then you'd have to switch to "restrict to", and set a bitrate target so, as an example, the content that I rendered averaged 28.0 Mb/s or you could keep automatic, so you get a quality based rate control, but change it to "high"

thats a huge reduction in filesize 😅 you can keep reducing the quality if you want smaller files. I dont know what you're doing with the files, or what level of accuracy you're after, but yeah. Up to you 🙂 if you're looking for actually well compressed content, that wont go thru more re-encodes, and is going to be shown as is, you'll probably want to look for a rate control that optimizes for this. x264 crf, or VBR-CQ for hevc_nvenc. You wont get that in resolve tho. What I do for that scenario is that I get very accurate content out of resolve, and you can run it thru ffmpeg, handbrake or whatever your choice is what has what you want
