Bi-color Dress Shoes for formal/professional occasions?
Are multicolored dress shoes generally a no go for formal events like weddings? Nothing totally crazy, but like like black + brown/tan or navy or grey/white. Or is there a color that'd work best for this?
I'm looking into custom boots so sky's the limit. So, on one hand, I can get something one of a kind, but on the other just because I can, doesn't always mean I should.
I have a brown balmoral boots already, so I was specifically looking for something to fill the role of a black dress shoe/boot. I wanted a bit of color for some flare, something like this (https://adelanteshoes.com/collections/mens-shoes/products/the-clasico) but if it's gonna be unwearable outside a purely casual environment, that'd be a deal breaker.
If I don't get different colors, I could at least going to get mixed textures like regular vamp with suede or embossed uppers.
Shoes would be from Carmina for reference.

Imo these are not wearable in any environment, not a fan at all.
Cuz of the color or just the shoe in general?
Also, tbh im kinda struggling to find a color that actually works well in the first place so maybe its a lost causse
both
Both of these patterns are horrendous
Both. These look pretty tacky - there are better ways to stand out (to the degree that it's appropriate to stand out at a wedding) like suit details etc.
@pansbjorne is it your wedding or are you a guest? What is the dress code?
Purely hypothetical wedding. So i guess guest, unspecified dress code
Also, I could do a different boot like https://www.carminashoemaker.com/custom-work-boots-80791

If the monkstraps are a no go
What's the allure of the two-toned boots?
I just like the look I suppose. Probably started with seeing some half suede galways
Just get the mink suede and aged oak Galways. They’re technically too formal for a wedding most likely since they’re country boots but they’re the best two tone option you’ll have.
My main advice is to not wear two tone shoes to the wedding
Country boots are too formal for a wedding? That's surprising, why is that?
Yeah I would say that Galways are fine for a casual wedding, but if it is specifically formal or white or black tie, then no go. Few weddings have strict dress codes these days so they’d probably be fine, but also don’t wear two tone boots to a wedding.
It depends on the wedding and dress code but imo people think Galways are more formal than they are and it bugs me a lot. Beautiful boots. But almost never worn well
(They also think they are more casual than they are)
Ahh I think I know why I'm confused, I was thinking of these types of galways:
Oh lmao

The Galway
We've been making the Galway boot for the best part of a century. The Galway is instantly recognisable from the distinctive, curved arrowhead on its side. Both practical and full of character, the Galway has gained iconic status as the ultimate derby boot.
Those are much nicer hahaha
They’re so dope but I feel like with Galways you just end up looking like a Peaky Blinders extra if you’re wearing them well.
The use case is just too specific
Fair enough, though how about dual texture?
Galway

Hell no
Id get the mink ones but I feel like I should have at least 1 pair of black shoes
Not as bad as dual-tone but as annoying menswear bloggers will tell you, it's better to draw attention to your face than your shoes when wearing tailoring
Get some black oxfords and wear a cool suit imo
Just wear black oxfords and have fun with something else. A single flashy item for a specific hypothetical situation isn’t a good way to buy anything
Also don’t buy custom
Alright
I appreciate all the advice yall!
Saddle shoes and spectator shoes are what I call deeply expert territory.
Definitely beware of shoes with two different materials. For example, think about canvas and leather. How carefully do you need to work to polish the leather without getting any polish into the canvas? Once it's in, it never comes out. Even just brushing and cleaning is difficult.
But beyond that, wearing them well requires a good eye. I personally can't say yes to any of the ones to linked, sorry
Yes, some black oxfords
Tbh if it’s not your own wedding, trying to stand out too much is kinda wack. Maybe have a fun tie and pocket square combo and just make sure your suit is a luscious fabric and fits well
