I don't understand what is the difference between the Iris installer and the Iris 1.6.5

Hello, I am new to Iris and minecraft mods in general. I saw in game the message saying that there is a new versino of Iris, but when I downloaded the installer again it was the same one I already have. I am not sure I understand. Is Iris 1.6.5 a shader instead of the program that support shaders ? If that's the case, I do not have an iris Shader on so I don't understand why there is a message telling me to update it ? I am also not sure where I should download the iris 1.6.5 if I have to download it, should it go in the shader folder ? Thank you for your help !

1.6.5 is the newest version of Iris shaders, a mod that loads shaderpacks, which need to be installed separately

The Iris installer installs Iris Self explanatory If the version you have is 1.6.4 or older, then there is an update available if you wish to update. If you’re on 1.6.5 then you don’t need to do anything

You need Java 17

That and you're opening the wrong file To clarify: the file at the top (iris-mc1.19.2-1.6.5) that you are trying to open in the screenshot is the mod file, which can be put in .minecraft/mods if you have already installed fabric loader. Instead, you should open the bottom file (iris installer) which you can open and it will install everything for you.

@Ainsel you should try installing Java 17 from adoptium and opening the installer with it https://adoptium.net/

Eclipse Adoptium provides prebuilt OpenJDK binaries from a fully open source set of build scripts and infrastructure. Supported platforms include Linux, macOS, Windows, ARM, Solaris, and AIX.
