where did you get java from?
yeah that is a heavily outdated version of java
get java from https://adoptium.net/

done i have downloaded it now
what now
sorry, did you select add Java_home variable in the installer?
no? or maybe? how and what do you mean by that
sorry am too sleepy to help rn
haha its good
np
Look up jarfix and run that program. It should fix your issue
What is Jarfix and how does it help?
Jarfix is a tool that can be used to fix issues where .jar files don't launch, due to their associations being hijacked, on double-click. You can download it from https://johann.loefflmann.net/downloads/jarfix.exe

Didn’t realize there was a tag for it lol
i have it downloaded now, but im not sure if there's anything that i need to do with it? i made it go through a scan but idk if anything happened, since i tried downloading irishaders again, and its the same issue
And it may seem like it downloads irisshaders to the right program, but i dont think it does though. Cus i set that program to be the program it would download it in
And i've actually gotten my friend to download it at the exact same time with the exact same downloads, and his just worked totally fine, while mine keeps downloading it to the wrong apps
Try just installing iris from Modrinth like a normal mod
I have already tried that, and my friends tried to help with it too, but it still says the same
What do you mean it says the same? You just plop the modrinth files in your mods folder
Can you tell us what happens when you double click on the Iris installer now after running Jarfix? Is it the same error as before or different?
yeah its the same error. And about the modrinth, im unsure what you mean. If you mean the link that i can download it through modrinth it still dosnt work?
The modrinth files and the installer are completely different
The modrinth files go in mods folder after installing fabric
You don’t run it
like we talking the green download in the bottom here?
Yes just download that, same with sodium, and put those in mods
yeah when i download that it ends up like this
so yeah same problem
Are you trying to open it?
Both, whenever i try to open it the same happens, but cant really drag it anywhere
try reinstalling java ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I have like multiple times 🥲
i just tried uninstalling all java and redownload it, but it still dosnt work
if youre trying to drag it directly from your browser window that normally just runs it. you'll have to go to your downloads folder and drag
iris-mc1.20-1.6.4.jar
from there into your minecraft mods folderWhat version of java are you installing?
I don't know why you guys are telling them to put the file in the mods folder, because if they can't run the Iris installer there's a very high chance they haven't run the Fabric installer and don't have a fabric loader.
Haha i really cant find my minecraft folder though, cant search for it and cant find it tho
what is the fabric loader?
Iris is a fabric mod, it needs the fabric loader. The Iris installer will install that for you.
Hmmm this one
oh yeah i cant get that downloaded, thats the thing
Okay, no wonder, that's the wrong version
Oh?
That's java 8, ancient.

select Java 17, JRE, Windows, x64
remove any other Java under uninstall programs, then install that.
is it this one then?
well you don't need the full JDK but it's fine, just a little extra disk space
but yes Java 17 is required for minecraft these days. last version that supported java 8 was 1.16.x
I mean it still says this when i try to download iris...? i feel like it may download iris into a wrong app or something, because it started out as an internet explorer file download, and then i changed it to that java it may try to download it down on? not too sure
Your file associations are still trying to open the .jar file with a different program. Rerun jarfix.
this one?
there's a link in this thread, just click on it
I don't know why it's asking that but I would say no, you should have a JRE from the JDK you just installed.
Did you uninstall Java 8?
I think so? it wont let me download it without at least, so i'll reinstall java 8 ig, it sends me directly to a link to download it
No, do not install Java 8. Go to add/remove programs and remove any version of Java. Then go back to Adoptium, select Windows, JRE, Java 17 LTS, x64, install that. Jar files should open then.
Yeah under add/remove programs, i cant even find a java, which seems weird because i must have downloaded it. I can send a screenshot
it probably won't say Java in the name, do a search on JDK or JRE
(programmers are terrible at naming things)
Lol, there is only this though? i cant find any java
Look through control panel programs
its the same program, no java only that one
Hmm, okay well I guess jarfix is just severely confused. Right click on the Iris installer, choose Open With, navigate to where Adoptium installed its files, probably under
\Program Files\
, and select javaw.exe as the program to use (it will be under bin\
).Im not sure i quite catch that, i have pressed "open with" and im like on my files menu, where do i look for what to open it with?
i have javasetup.exe
it should go like Open With -> Choose another app -> Scroll all the way down, 'Choose app on PC' -> Windows explorer, navigate to javaw.exe (whereever you chose to install it, probably something like
C:\Program Files\Adoptium\[version something]\bin\javaw.exe
)this is what it looks like, but where do i go, since you say "navigate to javaw.exe" which i dont know where is exactly, and i cant search for it
Should be in program files
Or program files (x86)
under what? there isnt a section anyway with any program files? 🤔
On your disk
ahhh i see
but it isnt there though
in neither of program files and program files (x86)
Maybe my pc really just hate me
