Looking for advice on jacket/pants fit
Following up on a previous post where you guys gave me some stellar advice. Looking to get opinions on fitting a jacket and pants I purchased for a wedding. Thinking the jacket might need the sleeves shortened slightly, but want the experts opinions on it. Also wondering if I might need the pants hemmed. Thoughts?

Sleeves are a bit long and the jacket waist could use a touch of work. Can't say anything about the trousers unless you plan on going barefoot tho. Also I can't tell if my eyes are going south, but are those trousers a different color?
Yes, navy jacket/grey pants, not a matching suit.
Got it
I'll toss some shoes on later and post a pic. Don't have the pair I'll wear, but have a pair of similar build
Just based on the pic, I can't imagine needing them shortened by more than 1"
It seems like a combo that's a little off. The trousers look slim while the jacket doesn't.
thoughts on jacket (in order of most/least improtant)
- jacket sleeves should be shortened to expose about a half inch of your shirt cuff (wear the same shirt to the tailor when you try on the suit)
- jacket looks a little boxy and could have the waist suprressed (taken in) a little
- it might be the angle/perspective, but the jacket seems maybe a little long
- button stance seems a little high, but it could be because it's a 3 button blazer
overall thoughts::
- if you must wear an odd jacket, i think the pants should contrast. maybe medium grey trousers instead?
- the pants taper too aggressively
I was hoping to make the jacket a bit slimmer with tailoring. Second-hand jacket, so if I need to alter it or even look for a replacement it wouldn't be the end of the world. Was kind of hoping shortening the sleeves and bringing in the waiste would make it match/fit a bit better.
I have a second pair of pants, but they had a small hole in the back (didn't have them in the picture when I got them). I'll update this post with those pants on. If the color and fit are a bit better, I might just get them hemmed and the hole fixed. It's pretty small, so I would guess someone hemming them could also fix it in a way that isn't terribly noticable without looking closely
To get the best advice, you want photos best representing reality.
You want to stand in the so-called "robot pose": upright but relaxed, with your
arms down by your sides. You want photos of the front, back, and both sides.
Please have someone else take the photos, or use a tripod, or lean your phone/ca
mera on something, rather than taking a selfie; when you hold up one arm for a s
elfie it distorts your pose enough that many elements can no longer really be ju
dged properly.
Please also take the photos in natural light, or great indoor lighting. Poor lig
hting and dirty mirrors will make it hard to tell what's going on.
Also, like other people said, you want to wear dress shoes, you want to yank down the hems of the pants so that the pants are as straight / uncreased as possible, draping down as well as they can. It's hard to tell what's a real issue and what's just sitting poorly at this moment.
I think the same thing on Discord as I do on Reddit. You're trying to wear an orphaned suit jacket with dress pants and that never looks good.
I'm not one to ever advocate for buying orphaned suit jackets. However, once already bought, you just do the best with what you have, right? Especially when it's an issue of time and/or money.
In that vein, my advice for doing the best one can with that jacket would be - get it tailored - sleeves and quite possibly waist. If that's all you do, wear it with ... charcoal, mid-to-light gray, brown, fawn, or olive pants, possibly cream/ivory. Want to do more to it? See if it can be re-pressed to a 3-roll-2 button configuration. Want to do even more? Then swap out the buttons for silver metal ones. Wear it with cream dress pants or cream chinos. Oh, and regardless of your choice, consider a pocket square.
Thank you all for the great advice. As of now, I have decided to just buy a suit (Spier and Mackay Red Label in Navy). The pants actually fit ok I think after trying again, but just not for this outfit. I'll keep them, maybe grab a sport coat to go with them for less formal occasions. The jacket I'll leave alone for now. All in all the whole combo was only $30, so I'm not heart broken the attempt. It was another opportunity to learn
that's a great move! the first return is free, so consider ordering a few different sizes/cuts to nail your fit
looking forward to it. went back and forth with support on sizing, so hopefully we can nail it the first go around
