Nice Watch AND Apple Watch

What are your thoughts on this? How can I make it work without looking silly? What’s a good setup so it doesn’t look silly?

One or the other is my suggestions Even the nicest Apple Watch is still more a piece of industrial design while more standard timepieces are designed more like jewelry

There is no way to do it without looking silly. Either commit to your nice watch(es) or the smart watch

Maybe just a fitbit then?

Why you should wear a traditional watch and a smartwatch together
It’s the best of both worlds. And trust me, you can pull it off.

Watch fan here, but unfortunately a bigger Apple Watch fan. You shouldn't do both. I dress up the Apple Watch best I can, and my screen is always off unless I tap it. If/when there's a better solution (some other tracker/notifier), I'll jump on that and go back to traditional watches.

Apple should really just make a round display tbh. I’d be fine w/o being able to type on mine. I mostly just want the stats and notifications

I'd prefer round as well, but the look of it would still need some changes. Bands go a long way, as does making sure the screen is either off or appropriate. I don't type on mine really. It's mostly a health tracker and a selective notifications thing for me. It's helped me keep my phone in my pocket or somewhere else, and that's a big life win for me

I actually haven’t looked at their range recently. I’ve been thinking about a new watch - if they have anything with a metal bezel, I might swap Plastic is light and all but black is ugly as shit. I’d pay extra for aluminum

I think the fénix line is metal?? They def have a line that’s a step up from the forerunners and one of the main things is a metal housing

I’m pretty sure you’re right. I bought my current one years ago when I was in college, so I wasn’t about to splurge lol

I do both. I have an Apple Watch for fitness/health tracking, notifications, and other info (weather, etc), and I have a few nice mechanical watches that I wear day-to-day. I like having my steps and heart rate recorded, and the mechanical watch is more like jewelry, so I wear both rather than alternate between the two. The exception is when I wear a suit - I'll skip the Apple Watch and just wear a mechanical watch. It definitely looks a little goofy - there's no way around it - but whatever. I wish the Apple Watch could look more like a bracelet (like a whoop band or fitbit), but it doesn't, so I just put it on a braided loop band

I think you can get away with more outlandish style choices if you are both very old and have been to the moon

I only wore my Apple Watch for like 6 + years before making the switch to a seiko classic a couple months ago. I wanted to do both but couldn’t find a good way to do it. Anyways I’m way happier with my overall look just wearing the seiko, I just keep the Apple Watch in my bag for working out. I thought I’d miss the various functions of the apple watch but I honestly don’t at all

This is the apple one - https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MPD13AM/A/45mm-midnight-braided-solo-loop-size-6?afid=p238%7Cs1HF9fJp0-dc_mtid_1870765e38482_pcrid_652838197344_pgrid_147153194626_pntwk_g_pchan_local_pexid__&cid=aos-us-kwgo-pla-btb_lia--slid---product-MPD13AM/A There are a bunch of Amazon knockoffs, and I'd rec those instead, bc they're almost identical, and they all stretch out over time and need to be replaced if you want a snug fit

most smartwatch come with those silicone straps that easily show wear and tear after months of use as it rubs on your skin (not too noticeable at distance and depending on color). at the same time they need to fit tight to function properly (e.g. for health tracking)

metal wrist straps for the occassion would be fine, just don't even try the fake luxury watchfaces they look silly
g2x222
g2x22212mo ago
yeah i just use the modular face, so it doesn't look like a normal watch not really advocating for it, but it's one of those things where i know it's weird and don't care

you could look into something like a smart ring as an apple watch alternative if you're using it for fitness

I tired to wear my timepiece and my new apple watch at the same time. Timepiece on the left, apple watch on the right. This lasted a solid two weeks. I really don't care what other people think of what I wear, but I felt silly and it wasn't as functional as I'd hoped. I am now exclusively wearing my apple watch because it does more for me than my timepiece. The only thing that sucks is that apple watch straps are mostly ugly and expensive. I was talking to my dentist about this because she saw me rocking both. She said she wears apple watch daily and most evenings, but will switch to her timepiece for special occasions or for events where she wants to make an impression. Makes sense to me. Having tried both double watch, and apple watch only, I'm staying with apple only.

I wondered about wearing the regular watch like normal and then the apple watch military style with a band that looks like a cord bracelet Probably still looks a bit silly I do like wearing my Fitbit military style though cause it reduces the risk of smashing the screen

Put the apple watch in your pocket. Maybe get one with a bigger more useful screen. And the ability to make phonecalls and take pictures might be good too. Maybe it can also have apps that do everything you need

I have trouble dropping the smart watch because it's part of my daily use. Feels weird without it.

I think it’s mainly about 1. Dressing nicely around the watch and 2. Picking a neutral color of watch/strap. I wear a “midnight” Apple Watch which is basically black and I think that looks good if you have an aluminum one. Avoid the brighter color ones like blue and red as they’re a little too jarring to match outfits as well. I also like having the always on display, I think that helps with the rectangular-computer-on-your-wrist look

@enumbers problem w/ wearing the apple watch with the screen facing in is that the HR sensor becomes functionally useless at the end of the day, an apple watch is way more useful than a mechanical watch, but it'll never look as good people wearing the apple watch casually on the silicone band is grim
