How to check if my Github is verified
I've been on the hobby plan for a while, with a connected debit card and a GitHub account.
I was under the impression that, if my Github is verified, then I'll get $5 worth of usage for free.
I've been charged $5 today. How do I check if my Github is verified and if it isn't, how do I undergo verification? The verification link I've seen posted in some places just takes me to the plans page.

The free 5 dollars was a thing in the developer plan, they have now switched to the hobby plan so the developer plan is not a thing anymore
the hobby plan works the same as the developer plan but with a 5 dollar minimum payment
Your github is verified though, otherwise you wouldn't be able to use Railway at all
Didn't the pricing update articles mention that the $5 monthly fee would be waived for users who were on the developer plan already and had a verified Github account or something like that? It was a bit confusing but I remember reading that in support channels as well
Yea it was pretty confusing, but turns out you'd have gotten it waived if you've spent money on railway in the 3 months prior to the announcement
Thank you for the answer! Do you have any links to articles/updates from official channels for me to read more and share with others?
I'll wait to see if other people have any input as well, as I've read so many different conflicting answers on the topic so far that it's no wonder people are getting confused

Updates on Plan Changes
Planned upcoming changes to the free and developer plan, and the reasoning for all of them. We’d love to hear your feedback here.
Hope you find these helpful :D
I've read the first one - it mentions this:
The "verified" hyperlink leads to this page now (but back then it would lead to a page explaining that your Github account needs to be verified):
The second link doesn't seem to mention anything about getting your $5 fee beiong waived if you've spent money in the 3 months prior to announcement, though maybe I'm just reading it wrong
I'm not sure what blog out of the two mentions the having paid a non zero bill, but it's definitely in there
^
I think this created confusion, I think both the listed requirements are required, not either or
Ohhh yeah, I remember reading that - I had definitely thought it meant either or (and that assumption was further reinforced when I read some other misleading community discussions, don't remember where)
Thanks, okay, I can forward this information to other people now
Why is that a thing, though? I think the main reason I thought it's either-or is because I figured the purpose of the first check was to filter out people that are just abusing the services for ToS breaking apps and whatnot, and so it seems like the second check would do the filtering job just fine
What's the purpose of that first check?
I also thought it meant either or at first, but it makes more sense now because I bet that having a ton of users use less than 5 dollars of product both takes a lot of space in databases and costs a lot of money to maintain, and therefor - to ensure that the platform is not overloaded by users who don't give railway the profit it needs to maintain and upgrade their systems, a 5 dollar minimum check would be perfect, which can be waived for users who use more than 5 dollars since they give railway profit anyway
It ensures the users who spend a lot of money on railway feels appreciated, to make them stay on railway while simultaneously boosting railway's financials so they can maintain and upgrade ( and profit )
well said fragly

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the first requirement
I get why the free tier is discontinued, but I thought the requirement meant that it would only apply to users who have happened to have spent money in the last 3 months at the time the change was announced which seems odd as that wouldn't necessarily include loyal users or users that have brought Railway profit already (or even users that are likely to bring Railway profit in the future)
Is the "in the last 3 months" part of the requirement continuous? Meaning if I was on the developer plan back when the change was announced and I pay a non-zero bill, do I pass the requirement? I'm under the impression that it isn't and that it only includes members who have spent money in the last three months only at the time of the announcement
which can be waived for users who use more than 5 dollars since they give railway profit anywayHow do they give profit to Railway if they just paid $0.13 for example for a few extra hours of runtime and now their $5 fee is waived?
It's not continious, it was just in the last 3 months prior to the announcement, if you did use more than 5 dollars in the last 3 months rather than more than 5 dollars at all then it means that you're an active user on railway
How do they give profit to Railway if they just paid $0.13 for example for a few extra hours of runtime and now their $5 fee is waived?I mean you're gonna have to say "more than X amount", and there'll always be someone who just scraped over that amount, I doubt it's that big a problem that railway needs to have thought of a more complex way to handle that Just keep in mind, I don't represent railway, I'm just replying with my thoughts, the actual intentions behind these could be different
and with that said, in going to lock this thread as the same questions worded differently are being continually asked, thank you fragly for your time
