tried using the interal address initially and then using a subdomain through cloudflare which is accessible on its own, albeit behind authelia.

Hi, thanks for your post. First off, I should mention that the Dash. widget does not support, if you proxy your Dash. behind authentication. Next, you should ensure that your Dash. and Homarr are running on the same protocol (either HTTP or HTTPS). You must also allow iframes, if you use a proxy to manage requests to Dash: https://homarr.dev/docs/widgets/dashdot-widget
📟 Dash. | Homarr Docs
The Dash. widget will integrate your existing Dash. instance into Homarr. The graphs will be integrated using iframe.

I was trying to just do it without proxy through cloudflare initially

And it didn't work? Sorry, but I really need more information to help you properly 🙂

It did not. Using the internal address followed by port number. The app pings properly and is green for connected. I'd be a bit faster but I had to run out for a few minutes. I thought maybe I was doing the url incorrectly

Was the internal address the same protocol as the external?

No. It would've been http. I tried HTTPS but it didn't work and that where I lose my train of thought on fixing it Wasn't sure how to push internal https

I tried HTTPS but does your app actually run on HTTPS? You can't just use HTTPS on an application that runs on HTTP Homarr runs per default on HTTP only. It does not support HTTPS. So it's likely, that you must run Dash. on HTTP as well, unless you use proxies

I do have homarr on a proxied CloudFlare so I can check it remotely. From behind authelia as it is mostly likely meant for internal use Ill have to check if I can force HTTPS for dashdot without proxy. interesting. it works through iFrame but it requires scrolling. it wont auto resize. ill see what i can figure out for it. tough to troubleshoot when i cant sit at the computer to do it and i dont want to waste your time trying to figure it out i would think that somewhere people have got it working though

it works through iFrame but it requires scrolling -> probably because the API fails. Can you check the Homarr log? Your browser probably has access to Dash., but Homarr doesn't or it fails on some way There are already plenty of posts regarding this topic btw. Maybe you'd find a solution in existing ones, before experimenting yourself
