Issue adding a custom domain to my railway service
Hello! I've been trying to add a custom domain to my railway service and GoDaddy is giving me the following error message, "Record data is invalid", when I try to add the provided CNAME record. Is this a known issue? Thanks in advance for your help.

it's known that GoDaddy does not support root level cnames, for that you would have to use cloudflare's nameservers
https://developers.cloudflare.com/dns/zone-setups/full-setup/setup/
Thank you so much Brody! I'm new-ish as a developer so I wasn't aware -- I'll follow the steps on that link and cross my fingers!
if you need any clarification feel free to ask
Hi Brody! I hope you're having a great week so far -- I managed to update my domain's nameservers but I'm stuck on this screen. Apologies in advance for bumbling around, but I'd appreciate your help once again!
I'd be happy to help, can you show me your cloudflare DNS settings?
Here's a screenshot! Thank you so much
you are using an A record when you need to be using a CNAME
I can't seem to pull up the target/value from railway (which appeared when I first created the custom domain) -- do you have access to it by any chance? And to clarify, I need to change the A record to a CNAME record AND ALSO update the value, correct?
you can just remove the domain from railway and then re-add it to get the cname value
and yes, you would first need to delete that A record from cloudflare
Got it -- here is the updated DNS settings
Seems like when I try to navigate to nahno.co, it redirects to a railway URL and then fails (but it might just be a matter of waiting for the proxy to be set up?)
Neat idea
I usually just tell the waiter "separate bills please"
Haha thanks @jonbeau! It was meant to be a small side project for me, myself, and I because I'm horrific at requesting venmos but always somehow end up picking up the tab. Strangely, in the past month (since I built the app), it's gotten 100+ users on testflight through word of mouth and there's several hundred more waiting on the app store release, which is why I needed to create this (horrible-looking) website. The app store submission requires a privacy policy page and a support, ie. contact, page as well.
If you're interested, I'll let you know when the app binary is approved and on the store!
Also @Brody , thank you so so so much for your help. I feel very dumb and incompetent because all your help was pre-answered in existing support pages. But I appreciate your patience and support despite that!
no worries at all mate
And, the "separate bills" ask only works ~10% of the time in NYC (at least in my experience) and
1) I can see that they find it super inconvenient
2) They can't split multiple items across x diners (so if it's an appetizer or entree is split by <total number of diners)
But that said, I wish they had better software at restaurants to support this workflow without an app!
we don't really even have any good restaurants around here π
I've never had any of those problems at any sit down restaurant I've ever been to in my life, in fact most of the time the waiter or server will ask if I want to split the bill first
Gosh, maybe I'm the problem!! π
Iβve never had those problems either tbh
America problems
