boat shoes
Are boat shoes out of style right now? I recently acquired rancourt boat shoes for cheap on EBay but I’ve realized I don’t see anyone wearing them so I might sell them since I’m suspecting they’re out of style at least in my area (San Diego). Lately I’ve just been wearing flip flops and mules instead and have barely worn the boat shoes.

They can work, loafers are more versatile right now, but boat shoes can work. As said, they can have an association with some shitty groups.
You have to lean much more towards the camp vibe than the prep vibe to avoid the negative connotations
What association with "bad people" is this? Rich guys who own boats?
Nazis
Bro what?
Alt right
and frat bros
but alt right
I actually wrote "not like boat owners are nazis" but then decided to ask for clarification instead. Seriously?
Also come on, don't lump in frat bros with nazis.
Well, I'm not super up on what nazis are wearing these days. Did they decide boots weren't good enough?
I guess I don't see the right media to associate boar shoes, linen pants, and navy blazers with fucking nazis of all things. Just boat-adjacent ivy-adjacent people.

How Polos and Khakis Became the New Uniform of White Supremacy
In Charlottesville, anonymous clothes took on new meaning.
Boat shoes kinda get lumped in as a consequence
it's shitty, I agree, because there's nothing inherently wrong with boat shoes
but fact is that alt right extremist groups have coopted this super trad white shirt/khaki pants look in an attempt to make themselves and their ideologies more palatable
There's group chat logs and shit where they go into great detail planning this stuff out
ya the old "frat bro" uniform of polo, kahkis, boat shoes is poorly associated with the alt right as a whole, as said if you don't lean super fratty they are still fine, but its something to be aware of
ty, i was questioning my memory cause i couldn't find shit googling it lmao
they talk about it on the articles of interest ivy pod too lmao
third time I bring it up in the space of a week
Anyways there is absolutely nothing wrong with wearing boat shoes, but there are some people that associate them with that
Polos and khakis are far too mainstream business casual. This feels like allowing shitmongerers to coopt normal things we all do, like using the okay symbol or something. In San Diego... I'd have no compunctions against boat shoes, just avoid the 1488 tattoos amirite
But definitely good looking out to mention it so people can make an informed decision.
Because I sure as shit did not know
Are we sure those losers can afford a leather shoe?
this is basically the idea, and i agree to an extent, its just something to be aware of more than anything, i think day to day unless you are openly racist it wouldn't affect your life irl, most people won't jump there first
Yeah...
Ugh
