How do you guys feel about wearing a hat with a suit?
To what kind of occasions does it make sense? And where do you think we should avoid this?

if you have to ask you won't be able to pull it off
Unfortunately the guy behind needs the hat, so there's gotta be a balance somewhere
I felt that it looked stupid when I noticed someone wearing it during my graduation ceremony. But the lad was wearing a huge cowboy hat which really looked out of place. So, I was wondering if it make sense to wear it to horse race or weddings?
I think it would be fine at the races, or like if you're going to the cricket at Lords here in the UK. But the norms of dressing are very different there to anywhere else in the world
but obviously those are super specific situations, and I agree with all the advice above not to do it
I haven't figured out the hat situation with a suit yet. I'm hoping in a few more years I won't look as awkward with a real hat. Most others are fine with caps/beanies/etc. Hat situation is necessary for any time outside because no hair
Yeah, if you need the sun protection, this type of hat would be fine/preferred, but you have to fucking own it
And you're absolutely required to remove it when you're indoors
v true. etiquette and confidence might trump everything proper hats
Not proper hats but I wear flat caps and knit caps with suits often, as I wear a suit to work, but I only wear those when it's cold and I want to keep my head warm
I have a straw hat for summer that's more of a tan colour so doesn't look as smart as a Panama and I sometimes wear that if it's very sunny and hot
So having a purpose behind the hat is useful
And tbh I normally have an overcoat on too for flat or knit cap
Hat with a suit is classic. The problem is that it's mostly only old guys who know how to pair them properly, and young guys tend to look stupid. You in a suit and fedora (or homburg or panama hat) won't look like you want to look... if you have to ask.
yeah, I can throw many a hat into whatever bag I have (if work situation) or maybe jacket, but summer and something like a Panama hat gives me another thing to hold or try and find a spot for when I step inside. And yet I feel like I still don't do it as often as I should
