Hey
You really have a couple of options when it comes to Raincoats or water resistant jackets in England
In terms of traditional water resistant jackets, you have the traditional waxed jackets (like Barbour) Peacoats, Trench coats that offer some protection against the elements, but not much. These would be the most stylish options, albeit they are not the most functional in high rain environments (like the North of England, Scotland etc).
For more functional options, you could go with something like a rain coat that you would wear over your attire, and then you could take off when you get inside. In this area, you have quite a few options that are less than £150. The most well known of these is probably the RAINS jacket, which is available in long and short styles. I can’t speak to how good this jacket would be, as I have never owned a RAINS product before, but I have played an order for one, earlier today. I could provide an update later, if you like?
It really depends, how much rain and water resistance you require and how stylish and fashionable you want your choice of coat/jacket to be.
Hey thanks for the reply. I'm exactly in Northern England my self and it does get pretty grim up here but I'm not outside in the rain for too long, so something more fashionable like a wax jacket would be a solid choice for me and after looking them up they seem great for when it isn't raining too. I can stretch my budget up to £400 for something more stylish and versatile do you have any recommendations for something that also has a hood? Barbour has so many different jackets and I'm not sure which model is the best
Length and fit. Beaufort is the classic one I believe
I’ve got the bedale myself. There’s also the ashby if you want something with a slimmer fit
With Barbour Jackets, it can be useful to try them on in store. If you live in the North of England, there are a couple of Barbour stores. It might be worth popping in and having a look, and seeing which one you prefer.
I would agree with @bluesuedeshoes, the most iconic of the Barbour jackets are the Beaufort and Bedale. The bedale has slightly shorter silhouette, due to its equestrian roots, so if you want something slightly more slimmer and tailored, the Ashby is another good choice.
