minecraft Moderation Team Help
Hey, i have a small server (around 450 members), which was unexpected. I have never had to manage a team befofe, but clearly had to set up mods, admins and such.
The problem is that as I generally domt really know what i am doing, i am startimg to find issues with my staff being at each others throats when they have differing opinions on topics. It has led to a much more tense team than it has been the previous year. I want to go back to the relaxed team that all got alomg woth each other and sorted out arguments without... gettimg mean.
I feel like i need to have a proper structure in place, i domt feel the structure i currently have works, would anyome be able to offer me the structure yiu use that i can potentialy piggy back off of? The current team is
Administrator (i have 2)
These are in charge of the modpack, mod updates and any MC bugs that come up.
I am thinking of chnaging this to developer or something similar instead
Head Mod (i have 1)
Is in charge of mod applications, and is supposed to be in charge of the mod team, being the bridge between them and myself, but as i am incredibly active, my H Mod hasnt had to do anything, their only job has been to accept/deny applications and show mew mods how everything works.
Moderator (i have 6)
Are in charge of the server (mc and discord) players. They deal with answering questions, helping out, warning, muting, banning if needed.
Trial mod ( i have 1)
Their job is just learning how to he a mod, learning the rules and commands etc.
Is there a... better, more structured way i could have my team?

I have no experience in this either but I do study business, I might be able to help a small bit.
If you want to have a more friendly environment maybe you could do a standup, what we do during a project is daily or weekly standups where we each take less then a minute to talk about what happened and what problems they mightve had. This should create a more open environment to talk about some problems. Either you or the head moderator should lead it (HR figures).
Also maybe a more strict division of roles could eliminate some discussions where they have different visions?
It sounds more like an issue of who you have modded vs your staff structure. What are they at each other’s throats about specifically? That information would help. Managing players’ expectation is one of the toughest parts of running an mc server. However in my case all my mods like each other and get along great, and most of the major decisions come in the form of polls or me just making the executive decision and mods have never argued one time.
Also do you have 450 active players or historic players? How many players are online during peak hours? Because if you have 450 active players that will be very hard to manage with a divided team
Active wise, around 10 players in game at any time.
As for what has caused divisions, there have been a couple topics, the most recent being rules for "lore" related things. A couple players wanted to get "married" in lore, and soem of the staff were HIGHLY against this as it could.... bring unsavoury people to the server who mgiht want to start sometign wtih younger members. The other half of the team though this was ridiculous and wanted to just add rules to lore marriages.
It.. caused a lot of fightning backwards and forwards where I ended up having to step in and decide on a decision for them.
That sounds like a pretty silly argument😂 my advice is to have a more clear set of rules and to just have the final authority on situations like that. If a conversation is happening that is detrimental to the culture on the server, step in and make a decision for them. If a couple mods in particular are causing problems and fucking things up for the whole team, you modded the wrong people. Also this could all have been solved by having members come to you with their questions and concerns instead of fighting each other.
Tbh I think you have too many active mods, which leads to too many voices having power over others. I have about the same amount of active players on the server (usually 10 at a time) and I have 3 active mods, but 5 total (2 rarely play) and no “head mod”, plus one other admin. That structure has worked beautifully for me, as the 3 active mods get along like a real team and my other admin I trust with literally everything. No one else is really needed.
