Seeking the Best Server Optimization...
Best optimization for a self-hosted paper server with two gigs of RAM allocated, that has geyser, spark profiler, viaversion, and viabackwards implemented?...
Any and all suggestions and feedback appreciated!🧡

geyser on 2 gb of ram
is not gonna be fun...
It's been working decently for at least me myself, so far
What would you suggest allocating then?
4 gb is the recommended minimum
on 1.20
I’d say to use pufferfish (or purpur if u want more control over certain features). As for optimizations, something like farm control and view distance tweaks, along with turning down the entities spawn count. Basically just follow the paper optimization giga doc

How do I incorporate pufferfish into my server?
Lol
Preparation?
Sorry, voice to text
Pufferfish?
Ye
Use pufferfish.jar instead of paper/spigot
Pufferfish Host | Downloads - Pufferfish Fork
Download Pufferfish and Pufferfish+ Minecraft server jars
So pufferfish is more optimized than paper?
Yup
Okay, didn't know
It’s big thing is DAB
Which basically is better entity ticking
Not really a new server owner, but I don't know everything about self hosting, althoughI know a little bit
selfhosting aint really recommended
Kk
It's kind of the best option I have, right now
Well, I’d would still use pufferfish on a host
I'm not about to try to use aternos, lmao
Oracle has a free tier
How many players slots?
It’s a vps, so up to u
So Oracle basically lets you self-host, using their software?
Ur stuck with an older cpu and limited gb in the free tier
Asking, in the form of an analogy
Hm
But ur already just using 2gb… sooo I don’t see why not
Currently using an Acer inspire laptop to self host, lmao
oh… well yeah. It’s probably better than that
Are you saying that that's more than Oracle will give me?
oracle gives u 24 gb...
and 4 vcores
Last night, the TPS with me moving around and flying quickly and loading chunks and everything, and rapidly decreasing and increasing height and such, was pretty much still 20
Interesting
I guess it wouldn't hurt to give them a try
Ty
You will need to give them ur credit card, but it won’t cost anything as long as u stay in the free tier
Kk
It won't randomly charge me like five bucks, for like the first month or something?
Lol
Read the doc it’ll tell u everything u need
1 dollar for fraud prevention*
that u will get back
it “pends” a dollar to make sure ur legit
but yeah u get it back
Okay, thank you!
and it’s oracle.. so they’re credible
Uhhhh
Wait
I have cash, but I don't think I have anything in my account at the moment, that's connected to my debit card
đź’€
Damn
Well u can try… tbh I’ve never attempted with a debit card let alone no cash in it
Lmao
Go for it, see what happens
debit works fine
no cash not sure
So to summarize:
Use Oracle for the server, use a pufferfish server software instead of paper, and then just use the paper optimization giga doc?
And that should give me a decent amount of optimization?

I was asking about the topics that were stated by you and Quarth0—
and then just use the paper optimization giga doc?and i was responding to this
Ohhh
Okay
Sorry, my bad
Ty
Ur fine, no need to say sorry, this is why we exist here
okay-
Well, I guess I can mark this as solved, now
I think

I would actually recommend pupur (https://purpurmc.org/) over pufferfish as it adds features and some more performance tweaks and is super customizable. Plus their developer is friendlier and doesn't put performance behind a paywall.
Purpur - Your Minecraft, your way
Purpur is a drop-in replacement for Paper servers designed for configurability and new, fun, exciting gameplay features.
Its still pufferfish though, as it is just a fork (meaning purpur is pufferfish but with stuff added on top)

I'm using geyser, they won't help with any issues I have, or assist with support
what performance tweaks does it add?
iirc it doesnt add any over pufferfish
+ it has had weird issues in the past
they dont test their builds much, atleast in the past
Doesn't it implement the paid aysnc entity tracking? Also it has spark built in, so thats always a plus
not at all..
spark version is sometimes outdated in the purpur version
? Since when? I haven't heard anything about that, but you could be right
so its best to just download a standalone version
iirc they had a build that turned peoples world into stone
they also had a issue with dragon respawning for a few version
because of some pufferfish patch not implemented correctly or smth?
I couldn't tell you, have only been using pupur for a couple of years, and have had no issues, so idk
Whoa, so many new messages, lol
Oracle is taking forever, and apparently it didn't take my debit card
I don't own a credit card
Their website where you create a always free account, is super freaking slow
I was told by papermc discord, that that it doesn't add anything, lol
The only thing that does, would be the pufferfish part of it, is what they said
^^
which is why i asked
Do MasterCard debit cards not work?
ah ok, learn something new everyday
yup, sorry. I was wrong, me bad
My bank's debit card didn't work, but then I tried my cashapp card, and it worked, but then I got an error, saying that Oracle might not accept the type of card I used, although it accepted it already
I can also prove this:
I've sent a submission into their customer support
Since Oracle is a no-go for now, I'll just see how the pufferfish software goes, for localhosted
Ok, good luck!
