Ever since updating to 1.20 our TPS has been abysmal
Our server recently updated from 1.19.2 -> 1.20.1 on Paper, and the lag has gotten really bad. Is there anything that could've caused this? Also, for some reason minecarts on our server are randomly stopping/jumping rails...?
Lemme know if I need to give any more info

we would need a spark report
how would I grab that-?
download the plugin spark
on it, ill get it installed
isnt in paper now?
no
ah, then which server software has it? pupur? pufferfish? tunity?
purpur'
but its not always fully uptodate iirc?
ah, makes sense, i use purpur and just assumed it was part of paper because of the paper profiler depreciation message back when I ran paper
no clue how they handle updating it
I have paper with spigot, can i install it still?
(Sorry about the late response, 4th of July stuff.)
Ok, I have the profiler running. How long should I leave it going?
5 minutes while lagging
Alr.
spark
spark is a performance profiler for Minecraft clients, servers, and proxies.

These are not magic values. Many of these settings have real consequences on your server's mechanics. See this guide for detailed information on the functionality of each setting.
✅ Your server isn't lagging
Your server is running fine with an average TPS of 20.

please
use paper
Hm-?
Paper is another server jar
more stable, recommended, used, alot faster
etc
and doesnt skip ticks like spigot does
I can ask the owner, we might be using spigot for some sort of plug-in reason lol
@ae
I’m currently trying not to get hit by a firework again
Oh lovely
Will respond later
Paper is a fork of spigot, which is a fork of bukkit

paper is compatible with pretty much all spigot plugins

Tell the owner it's them who's supposed to be here and trying to resolve lag and stuff
so he should be doing everything?
With something as core and central to the server, he should be doing this.
unless he is just like the creative engineer, and you are managing it behind the scenes
in which case, I'd argue that you are the owner
We have a team, he has the hardware at his house but he was out today and we wanna get this fixed soon ig
We're thinking on doing Paper soon btw 👍
If you want even more performance, go with pufferfish or purpur. Pufferfish is a fork of paper focused on performance, and purpur is a fork of pufferfish that adds a bunch of customizability and features
Yes, indeed
That's my opinion though. If an owner doesn't bother, doesn't want or can't do that basic stuff they shouldn't be the owner. The one who does that stuff should be
Oh I mean if you guys are doing a team work then I guess it's fine
It's entirly fine. If he is hosting the server, then in my book, he is already done some work as it takes time to set that up. Plus its really not our business to say who should be doing the work. If @hawk wants to help to make the server better, good on them! I say props to actually having the courage to try and fix it and asking for help instead of ignoring it. I think the r/admincraft community frequently places "that's not your job" labels on people just trying to do good.
@hawk Any update?
TPS is still pretty rough, haven't changed yet. We're thinking on doing fabric with some optimization mods so we can have carpet and whatnot, as everything will just break on paper, pufferfish has a paywall, and purpur seems like it adds a bunch of random stuff we don't need and turns everything off by default. Big thing that is happening though has been the fact that minecarts have been skipping rails/going through blocks and getting stuck. Sometimes, they'll stop on a powered rail all together. This all happens while the chunks are loaded (I think)
Ok, fabric with optimization is totally a option. Pufferfish is free except there is a paid version that adds a couple of performance boosts, but not much and definatly better than running paper. Its really whether or not you want to run mods or plugins. In any case, I hope you work to fix the problems, and mabye send us a spark profile or two so we can try and look futher. What has the highest usage when the tps drops? Cpu or memory?
