Big LOD Blocks
Helloo helloo!
So I've been encountering these. Big blocks of LOD in the distance with nothing in them, not even terrain, just big LOD blocks. I can't seem to identify what kind of issue this is in the FAQs. Does anybody know what's going on here? Btw it's a single player world at 32 render distance

try setting your horizontal quality to high

If you already tried that, it might just be that you have to wait longer for the LODs to generate at a higher detail
Apologies for the late one
But yes I have already tried to wait for them to load but they remain unchanged
My horizontal quality has also been set to high with no changes
Could this be a PC issue or an issue with the terrain generation mods?
I am currently using Terralith, Terrestria, Traverse, and Oh the Biomes You'll Go
Okay so update, decided to boot up a newer world and this is what happened
The big LOD blocks are gone, thanks to this
But the only issue now is the range of what I'm seeing
It's supposed to go farther than that, right?
I've seen that other users can see farther but why isn't this the case for me?
Depends on DH's render distance
And it also wont generate LODs outside your render distance if you have "distant generation" disabled
You can also allocate more threads to DH to speed up generation, but that will also make your game laggier if you allocate too many
Ahhh I see
Hmm
Where can I find DH's render distance? And that distant generation thing?
Oh um btw, the amount I'm seeing here is the average for 128 right?
That looks more like 32~48 chunks
Iirc render distance is in the graphics tab and distant generation is in the generation tab in DH's config
Ohhh I see, I see
What should I set the distanct generation thing to?
True?
Ohh you mean the mode
Features
Yoww
No way
It works now
Oh um wait just a clarification since this is what's happening for me
The LODs are no longer big blocks, they're actually terrain now. But, I have to manually load the chunks for the terrain to well, exist. The LOD effect only happens once I walk away from them
That's normal, right?
Only if distant generation is disabled
With it enabled, it will make LODs outside your vanilla render distance
Unless you're on a server
Ohhh I see, alright
Hmm unfortunately Im not getting that effect still
I have the render distance at 128 and distant generation at features
But I still have to manually load the chunks by walking to them, LODs only appearing after I walk farther from the loaded chunks
Is it enabled tho
You have "generation mode" and "enable generation"
Enable generation has to be set to true
Oh right sorry
Aye wait
Lemme check this out
Alrighty, distant generation is at True now
Generation mode is at Features
Render distance is at 128
Lemme give this another go
Yeahh for some reason it's still like that even with distant gen
Yup that seems about right
Were you in esc the whole time you waited?
Iirc when u pause the game it also doesnt generate LODs
And you can try allocating more threads in advanced settings which will make it generate faster
Okay okayy, I stayed in the same spot and let the game update the terrain for 5 minutes
I bumped it up to 5.0
It loaded a bit
But I'm still not receiving the LODs
Ngl it seems like it's just loading in with the standard 32 render distance of the base game
The LOD effect still isn't appearing unfortunately
delete DH config, then in new DH config change world gen thread count to match your cpu thread count.
While generating LoD in-game (MC not in pause menu), check CPU usage if its hitting 100% or not.
if CPU usage goes above and beyond, congrats DH working
If there's no other mod installed, try post latest.log after you fail to generate lod here.
if there are other mods, try DH alone first.
Wait wait sorry I dont follow
Delete DH config? You can do that? Also cpu thread count?
Like the actual config file
.minecraft/config/DistantHorizons.toml
as for cpu thread count, google your cpu model for that info
Ahh solid copy
Lemme try that out
Then run it as is, right? Just DH?
yep, delete config file, then change world gen thread no. to match your cpu threads in DH settings (advanced tab)
atp i just wanna see if DH using the cpu or not
Okii so I use an Intel Core i5 7300HQ that has 4 threads, so I assume keep the default 4.0?
Alsoo, just wanna make sure
Ain't nothing bad gonna happen after I delete the config file, right since I'm not gonna use that often?
Nope, it will just generate a new one once you restart the game
Ohhh I see, I see, alright
Alrightyy
So I tried what Maybike told me
I deleted the DH Config file
Then changed the threads to 4.0, it was 4.0 in default anyways just did that to make sure
Thenh I booted the game up with no mods
And just DH
So far this is what's going on
It's loading, but pretty slow
And it's not showing up a lot even at 128 chunks
What am I supposed to do in the latest.log file?
Also ngl I had to do this just to get 128
Change it to a number higher than 128, I tried 160, loaded that in briefly
Then I switched to 128
did you check if CPU usage is 100% when lod generating?
if yes, then the bottleneck is your cpu
lowering vertical quality, horizontal quality/scale should help
upload it here
Ahh alright alright
Also CPU usage, that's this value right?
Well I think that's that
no
Is says GPU but it's the only thing with percentage in the F3
open task manager
ctrl+alt+del moment
Ahhh alright alright
Ohhh yeah
My CPU is at 100%
Alsooo
Sending my log file now
then its working as usual
way to speed up LoD generation here
Hmmmm okay
Rn the LODs are working and loading
But still I can't see very far
Even if I lower vertical and horizontal qualities
And scale
At this point tho, could this be a device issue for my case?
After 30 mins this is what my game looked like
The LODs work
The fog effect's working
But yeah, farther chunks are still yet to be loaded
For 128 chunks this is a tad bit on the lower side, right?
Okayyy
50 minutes later and it actually loaded in well
So yeah
Ig it is my laptop lmao
Its just generation in general, minecrafts terrain generation code is extremely slow
Ohh I see, I see
Hmmmm
So I assume it's fairly normal to have it load for such a long time then?
Depending on the CPU, yes.
Gotcha gotchaa
Thank you!!
