Encoder Lag
Luanched MW2 for the first time in awhile. No matter what settings I use I am getting massive encover lag. 13900k and 4090. Does not happen in the main menu/lobby screen. Only once the map loads.

GG @_mouf, you just advanced to level 2 !
Do you have a log from when you experineced the encoding lag?
Since in this one you haven't actually encoded anything
My first guess is that it's related to the vertical plugin, it's been known to have some issues recently
MWII loves amd gpus. so i wouldn't be shocked to see performance degrading when a new season comes around.
if its when the map loads, are you recording to the same drive that the game is on?
does the encoding lag go away after the map fully loads in.
no recording at all. just streaming. with a replay buffer.
i just noticed it popped up and said encoder overloaded...

just alt tabbed to sent that log
Still not seeing anything in that log
You can look at previous logs and find one that had encoder lag and upload that
maybe I am doing it incorrectly lol. Do I need to end my stream for the log to finish? or does it continually update the log as I am using OBS?
just switched to Fortnite and no encorder issues.
It should continually update as you go along
weird.
oh so you're getting both
Try dropping to preset P5 instead of P6 for both the regular and vertical streams
I lowered it down to P1 at one point and still was getting encoding lag
and it's only MW2. No issues in Fortnite
Can you run OBS not as administrator?
I thought running as admin was recommended always?
Not if you are on windows 11
Its actually better to turn it off in some cases
is there a rhyme or reason to when I should and shouldn't? I have my shortcut set to automatically launch as admin every time
Are you on windows 11 or windows 10
11
Turn it off admin. Leave game mode on and test
hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling off as well correct?
Hmm i believe i have that on in windows 11
tl;dr windows 10 needed OBS to run as admin (and have HAGS off) to fight against Windows scheduler issues
Windows 11 fixed those issues so it's instead recommend to not run OBS as admin and have HAGS on
well I am doing the exact opposite on my Windows 11 machine lol. I will flip them and see what happens. Much aprpecaited.
and what about look ahead and visual tunning in OBS? on or off?
and key frame interval
also did a test recording in OBS with HAGS on and OBS regular (not admin) and it appeared to be working properly in MW2.
key frame interval of 2 is fine
You can try disabling look-ahead and psycho-visual tuning, it has more of a performance impact than what it does for quality
have them on hurts performance?
They use the same part of the GPU that's used for games - the encoder still does the encoding, but it takes away resources that would the used for the game
HAGS and non-admin mode OBS seemed to fix it.
made it 3 hours and OBS locked up.

thats probably due to HAGS 😅 People can say what the want, but almost every single hang has been traced back to HAGS. Personally, I always recommend against it, because it just seem to cause trouble for a fair amount of people. And the trouble that it causes is critical.
If it runs well for you, great, but imo it is the number one hanger of obs'
