need help understanding bottleneck. Should i buy the 4070 non ti?
Hello, i would like to upgrade my 6600xt amd gpu and replace it with rtx 4070 but im worried i wouldn't get any improvements because of bottleneck. My cpu is i5-9600k and i rather not use the cash i have right now to replace mother board because i want the new graphics card.
On google it says my CPU bottleneck 6600xt by 26% on 1080p
im going to assume it would be even worse on the 4070 non ti card.
can someone explain to me how bottleneck affects the performance in game?
let say i got 110 fps in a game with the 6600xt.
will upgrading to the 4070 just give 110 fps still?

The 6600XT is nowhere near the same performance as a 4070. The price of the 6600XT is about $300 and the 4070 is double tha, they're not in the same class. A more accurate comparison would be a 6800XT or 6900XT,and the 4070ti is comparable to a 7900XT or 7900XTX. You will get much higher framerates with a 4070, 4070ti, 6800XT, 6900XT, 7900XT, or 7900XTX than a 6600XT
A bottleneck is not a bad thing like you're assuming it is. All it means is that if you were to upgrade a part, you should replace the one that's causing the bottleneck. You don't need a perfectly balanced system. That means that in the future you'll have to upgrade your CPU to something that works with your board (in your case that would be an i9-9900KS). Otherwise you'll have to upgrade to a new CPU + motherboard completely.
Let's make this easier
1. What resolution do you play games at?
2. What are your display's refresh rate?
3. What games do you play?
4. What other things do you need (or think you need)? AV1 encoding? DLSS? Ray tracing? Nvidia Broadcast?
5. What is your budget that you can spend (where you won't get in trouble with your parents)?
@Dennis Li
ty so much for the help. My parents agreed they will buy me the rtx 4070 but i had to pay them back. i think my parents would be okay if the card is below 1000 canadian dollars.
im looking for AV1 encoding. And the resolution is 3440x2560p 144hz monitor but i mainly set monitor to 2560x1080 and 60hz because most of the games i play don't support more than 60hz and im too lazy to keep switching back to 144hz so i stick with 60hz
If there is ray tracing i guess i will turn it on but most games i play don't have ray tracing
games i play. genshin impact, soulworker and the rest of the game are on emulators(for phone)
think genshin is the most intensive graphic i play right now
The amd 6600xt card works fine in genshin. the only problem is amd encoders are not good as nvidia encoders. I would like to record in 100mbs videos to get max video quality. i recently bought a 2tb hard drive just for the large video file size
GG @Dennis Li, you just advanced to level 9 !
also soda crisis has problem with amd drivers when recording.
i want to switch back to nvidia. i used to have a rtx 2060(not super) but it broke. some of the software i used for video editing and other software, it has a lot of nvidia support.
Thank you for the help. because i thought cpu limit the graphics card at a certain level and upgrading a graphics can't get higher performance
What is your current GPU
the mech msi rx 6600xt

The 4070 is much more powerful so you should be fine, and you should be able to run your monitor at full resolution and refresh rate without issues
okay ty
but i prefer low resolution and refresh rate. it's just i want to divert the gpu and cpu power to recording high quality videos
With the 4070 you're not really going to need to have to run your games or monitors t lower resolutions or refresh rates
As lon as you use NVENC you'll be fne
okay. but if i lower res i can save some electricial bills?
I mean it'll lower the GPU usage but it's not going to make much of a difference in terms of electricity costs, you're talking about < $50 a year
ok ty
