A380 AV1 Encoding on OBS
Is there any fix for using the A380 as a dedicated encoding GPU (Main GPU is a 6700 xt) for AV1 encoding. Only option I have in OBS for recording is the AMD options and QuickSync H.264.

You have to set OBS to specifically use the Arc GU
In the Windows settings app, go to
System
-> Display
-> Graphics
. In here, select Desktop app
on the dropdown under the phrase add an app
, then hit the browse
and locate the OBS app (which should be C:\Program Files\obs-studio\bin\64bit\obs64.exe
)
After it's added, locate it in the list of apps, click on it and select the ARC GPU from the list. Close and reopen OBS and see if it picks up on the ARC GPUIn this scenario would it then be the a380 processing all the scenes? I was hoping to leave that burden on the 6700xt and just have the a380 encode the recordings
That would put the rendering work on the A380, yes
You can instead try disabling the iGPU in the BIOS so that only the 6700XT and A380 get detected
CPU is a 5900x so no IGPU. Which is why it's odd Quicksync h.264 is available but not Av1
I assume you're on OBS 29?
Are you recording or streaming AV1?
Just trying to record using AV1 until Twitch gets support for AV1
Yeah on 29 and have just tried the beta to see if it fixed it.
I'll try rolling back the Intel drivers
Hopefully as it's just for encoding it won't matter if I use an older one
Yeah that's what I'm seeing online: https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/intel-arc-av1-shenanigans-obs-29-beta-3-and-obs-29-0.163122/

Intel Arc AV1 Shenanigans (OBS 29 Beta 3 and OBS 29.0)
Hi All!
I'll cut to the chase, makes things a bit easier.
I've been having issues for a bit over a month now with OBS not allowing me to use my Arc A380's AV1 capabilities or even HEVC for that matter. I'm able to choose Quicksync H.264, but the only other options for CODECS are x.264, SVT/AOM...
Yeah, I'll give it a go. I'm reluctant* to use the fix posted near the bottom of that thread as I'm not to keen to replace the OBS .exe haha
If using DDU in safe mode to uninstall the drivers and then installing some older ones doesn't work, people are saying to plug the A380 into a monitor. This is probably a bug on Intel's side from their work on iGPU's where the iGPU wouldn't work unless the system detected that it was plugged into a monitor
Gotcha, I guess I could just plug my secondary monitor into the A380 and see how that goes.
Yeah looks like plugging a monitor in does remedy this issue, will do some testing later to see what GPU OBS is deciding to use for processing all the scenes and such.
Its gets complicated yeah. I ran into this same issue last week when igpu and arc both have quicksync. So it got confused to which quicksync you had even though you want the arc card

So having the A380 connected to the second monitor did get the AV1 encoder back, and as I have an AMD CPU I luckily don't have the issue of OBS getting confused with what QuickSync encoder is which that DiamondRyce ran into. This set-up also lets OBS use my main GPU (a 6700xt) for scene compositing and what not so the A380 is just doing the encoding work and in a few hours of testing (just for recording as my test streams to Twitch obviously don't have AV1 yet) it's been basically flawless.

Just as long as OBS is set to use the arc card that should be fine
I streamed RE4 remake with 1440p AV1 while doing hevc recording no issues
Yep it should work, in Windows graphics settings you can set OBS to use the AMD GPU, and as long as the A380 is plugged into a display you can choose Intel for encoding.

It draws 75w. But still needs a 6pin pcie. (I know stupid but it is what it is)
I can get back to you with specifics in the next day or so, stress testing my system (6700xt and 5900x) drew 430W running at full tilt, which is never happening realistically, but I haven't checked yet with the A380 in the system. I have a 650W PSU and it's had no issues as of now. I'd hazard a guess to say 550W would be sufficient too.
Just did a quick test. Heaven benchmark running maxed out (not the heaviest benchmark but more realistic I'd say) along with cpy-z cpu stress test while recording using the a380 in OBS and the max draw I've seen from wall is 470 watts.
Gpu and cpu both have slight over clocks too
Would not recommend a 550w PSU if you're going to be drawing 500w - just GPU's tend to have power spikes that can jump up like 100w over what the card normally pulls at max load
Yeah good call

Yeah 750 should be plenty! Hope it treats you well!

GG @dibbledoink, you just advanced to level 1 !
Hey @adamarcade im curious are you using this on a single PC setup or Dual?. I was thinking of getting the Arc A380 as a seconary card to add to my one PC to use as stream while my 6600 to game?
It is a dual stream set up. I clone my game pc to the stream PC in OBS by doing projector preview
ahh i see im saving up some funds hopefully i can do a 2nd pc setup small form factor for the Arc A380

Awesome! I was actually just thinking about asking for an update last night. Great to hear it's working well!
wow sickkk thats good to hear
btw how do you choose the A380 to stream and the rx67 to play games?
this what im curious about
also drop your link id like to see the video recording 🙂
