128 vs 32 stepping

In the stock minion cfg it has 128 steps set. Has anyone lowered this to 16 or 32? My Voron friends were appalled to hear I have 128. Is lower better?

Your Voron friends should read the klipper stepper documentation. You can lower it as much as you want at the cost of sound. 64 is decent (and is the new default in 2.0). 32 is noisy AF. I bet your Voron friends think they lose torque with higher microsteps. That's not how it works. Also i bet you they run interpolation so they're actually getting 256 microsteps in practice and not the 16 they generate from the firmware.

The topic in question is here: https://www.klipper3d.org/TMC_Drivers.html#tmc-interpolate-setting-introduces-small-position-deviation There’s a lot of good stuff in that doc
