How many hours per week do you spend on studying and assignments?
I'm entering CPA; I'm trying to create a schedule beforehand and see if I need to speak with my boss about working less. Obviously, the number of hours will depend on the material for the week and the individual person's experience and knowledge, but I'd like a rough idea nonetheless just to be prepared. For example, in my previous program, the program coordinator said to expect 30+ hours of work outside of class.

Depends on a class and on a type of preparation.
Some classes need more than others. There are also labs, and quizzes.
To average things out, expect 3x hours of preparation for each class weekly
Its hard to say since its subjective to each person and their history and skills. My suggestion would be to reduce your work hours to the bare minimum for two weeks and get a feel for the difficulty and workload and adjust hours from there to find a balance you're comfortable with.
However, you might also want to maximise your hour efficiency. For example, to prepare for quizzes - it's best to do it before a class, instead of after classes.
Ok, can I ask how much you spend?
First two semesters, as someone with 0 programming skills before I was essentially studying day and night almost everyday
interesting, thank you. 3 hours per class doesnt sound so bad
Also, use your time in campus, if you have to be there. Use the time on the bus to prepare. If you just had a class and gotten homework from it - do it right away in campus, since your knowledge is still fresh and your mind is focused
By third semester it was a few hours a week and fourth semester I didn't do anything basically
I'm a full-time student so pretty much spend all day or as much time needed to get whatever I'm working on done
thanks for the tips. I have classes pretty much back to back so I might be able to do that
Some assignments require no brain power, while others need you to think
did you have a part-time job?
No, I was a full time student
I don't think I could get to where I am at now if I worked first 2 semesters
But then again not everyone has that luxury so...
makes sense. i familiar with javascript so i think i'll be ok
Make sure you spend time on C and C++ classes
im one of those ppl :(((
yeah i heard ipc is the hardest class for first semester
If you're a domestic student you have the luxury of not taking full course load though
i watched a few cs50 lectures and did some codings. it seems doable
Same here. Sem 1 and 2 was the toughest, with 0 programming experience coming into this program
