Going to be honest: if you're trying to get into competitive, you really shouldn't be focusing on trying to get to level 20 ASAP. Just play each match and learn what you can from it. If you treat these first few matches as arming yourself with knowledge for competitive, you'll be able to enter with a HUGE advantage.
