I just want to be able to use more than 1 level of subdomain without paying. Would it just be easier to add the tunnel to the dns tree normally and then just add an unproxied CNAME lower down in the dns tree?

i had the same issue a while ago with mine, i disabled it on the cloudflare dashboard, i think it's to do with ur ssl/tls setting
