Complete Noob Here..

So I just found about Immich a few weeks ago. I have never used docker before or gotten this deep into code at all. I have time and again tried to install Immich on my windows laptop. Here are my main issues/ goals: 1. I want to set up Immich with an external hard drive as the upload location. I have tried to input the path but it doesn't recognize my external drive. 2. I cannot access this server from my cellular device through the app even though I am on the same wifi network. (I can if I completely turn off the firewall but that feels unsafe). Please help. I am way out of my depth here.

Sorry this isn’t an immich related issue, we do not recommend the use of windows. Linux is much better

I have seen online that there are people who have gotten it working on windows though. I guess I dont understand how it can be that different.

Yeah it’s technically possible. It’s just pretty challenging and unreliable Especially with external storage

The firewall thing is another issue of windows unfortunately. I would really advise purchasing a second hand SFF office pc or such, they usually cost as little as $50, and run linux on it as a server. Your experience with any docker app will be much, much better.

Running it on WSL or in a Virtual Machine on Windows should work well too if you need to carry it with your laptop.

It's in general a really poor experience compared to linux installs... VM would work best if it has to be windows
