WiFi and Bluetooth dongle help
Hello I’m a Linux noob. I built a cheap 1080p rig for my mancave tv out of an hp prodesk 600 G5. Installed Bazzite. The computer doesn’t have built in WiFi or Bluetooth. I bought dongles but they aren’t working like plug-and-play. Can anyone help?
The pc won’t be in a location with permanent access to Ethernet but I can plug it in at a workstation with Ethernet to install any software, drivers, kernels, updates or whatever before putting it in its permanent location.
Fresh install of Bazzite. 41

What do I need to do to make these dongles work?

Avoid ugreen. Barely any linux support
It's mostly a gamble what works. Best ones you can get are ones with mediatek or Intel chips. But most of the times they don't tell you what's actually inside.
Luckily they are cheap and if one doesnt work, send it back and get another one 😛
I would try the TP Link one. It's realtek but should work most of the times
I already bought both of these. The tp link is wifi6. The UGREEN is Bluetooth 5.3.
Neither work.
Is there nothing to do but plug it in and hope it works? If not replace it and plug in the next one?
The ugreen will not work without making a custom image with custom drivers. So if you don't want to do that, you will have to replace it.
I'm surprised the Wifi is not working though, that's worth troubleshooting
Apparently that wifi adapter ALSO requires a custom kernel module to work sadly :/
Thanks for the help! I’m a newbie. What does it mean to require a custom kernel module?
So I need 2 of them then. Is that hard to do for a novice?
I’m trying to decide wether I go through the work to make these dongles work or just uninstall Bazzite and pay for a windows key
It's not even guaranteed to work since they're quite old :/
Your best bet is to buy new adapters with better linux support
That’s unfortunate but good to know. Think I’m going to bail on Linux and use windows. Hope they come out with their “game posture” soon.
