Help! Code 1 Error
I am attempting to install bazzite for the very first time onto my ASUS laptop and I have been having difficulties. Once I get to the actual installing part at around "deploying [bla bla bla]" it will eventually give me this error:
The following error occurred while installing the payload. This is a fatal error and installation will be aborted.
The command 'ostree container image deploy --sysroot=/mnt/sysimage
--image=/run/install/repo/bazzite-deck-nvidia-stable --transport=oci --no-signature-verification' exited with the code 1.
Things I’ve already tried:
- Using different bazzite versions (bazzite-asus-nvidia-open-stable-amd64, bazzite-asus-stable-amd64, bazzite-deck-nvidia-stable-amd64)
- Installing over Ethernet Connection
- Automatic Partitioning
- Manual Partitioning (With and without Blivet-GUI)
- Wiping the drive SEVERAL TIMES.
- Rebasing from Fedora Silverblue (FAILED, Receive this error at around same progress as in bazzite:
The following error occurred while installing the payload. This is a fatal error and installation will be aborted.

did you try this? https://docs.bazzite.gg/General/Installation_Guide/troubleshoot_guide/#error-code-1
Installation Troubleshoot Guide - Bazzite Documentation
Bazzite is a custom image built upon Fedora Atomic Desktops that brings the best of Linux gaming to all of your devices.
i think i did and it didnt work because it couldnt find a directory but i’ll try again and report back
here, it cant find an EFI directory like it should in the video

5 things to try
* Try booting anything with Gparted (e.g. Linux Mint) and make a new GPT partition table rather than wiping the drive then try the installer again e.g. see screenshot
* Try a different USB writing tool such as Ventoy, Fedora Media Writer or Rufus
* I've had that error once before where my flashdrive overheated, try a different usb flash drive and make sure you have it plugged into a USB 3 port
* If all that fails, try installing on a different SSD drive and see if that makes a difference.
* If you have an SSD enclosure, try install Bazzite on another machine (you can just throw the SSD drive in afterwards and it will boot on any machine - if you temporarily disable secure boot)

Ive made the GPT partition table, do i just make one large ext4 partition for the auto partitioning of bazzite to use or do i already have to split them up into their different types here?
Leave it blank and let the auto partitioning in the installer do it's own thing
okay, i hope this (or the other 4 i’ll try if this doesnt work) works
I hope so too as that's one of the easier options. Good luck 🙂
i think it might be working, its hanging on deployment for a lot longer than it usually does when getting the error and ive seen a proper install where apparently it hangs there for a while, though i am trying (and failing) not to get my hopes up
Don't get your hopes up yet, I've seen that error pop up after 15-20 minutes around the end of the install.
YES, THANK YOU SO MUCH!
YOU’RE A LIFESAVER!

bazzite here i come

wolfy being THE GOAT as always.
looks like I need to redo my "code 1 error" video 😅. there are a number of scenarios that I haven't covered
