of ant ? i think it is given u wrt stick so tht only
Gamertug
Gamertug3d ago
there is no mention of ground , or stick hittin the ground , i think we should take it wrt to stick
Percy
PercyOP3d ago
if we take acceleration of ant wrt stick it is 0 cus velocity of ant wrt stick is constant
Gamertug
Gamertug3d ago
yes but there will be psudeo force
Percy
PercyOP3d ago
So max height will be equal to the length of rod right? ooh
Gamertug
Gamertug3d ago
wait nvm V wrt to stick is 0 , ye no psudeo force
Percy
PercyOP3d ago
ye But the answer for max height is given as u^2/2g
Gamertug
Gamertug3d ago
what does it mean by max lenght , it gave no end point
Sephrina
Sephrina3d ago
yeah my ques is thers no height given of tower so ... how will we knw how much the stick travelled
Percy
PercyOP3d ago
According to the solution of the question, acceleration wrt ground is g...so the the ant will be able to travel upto a particular height only...but I don't understand the reasoning behind that solution
Sephrina
Sephrina3d ago
wrt to ground tht will be g yes
Gamertug
Gamertug3d ago
makes no sense tbh , if it is constant wrt stick , it will always be constant wrt to stick , it can travel till end of stick
Percy
PercyOP3d ago
yesss exactly
Sephrina
Sephrina3d ago
lemme look this que up
trin
trin3d ago
the stick is accelerating downwards?
Percy
PercyOP3d ago
yes and initial velocity of stick is 0
Sephrina
Sephrina3d ago
uhm guys its from pw right what chap?
Percy
PercyOP3d ago
yup kinematics
Sephrina
Sephrina3d ago
and uh which like topic is it given under
Percy
PercyOP3d ago
relative motion
Sephrina
Sephrina3d ago
cuz pw gives soln videos explaining
Percy
PercyOP3d ago
I have the video but I don't understand it
Sephrina
Sephrina3d ago
lemme loook other explanations
trin
trin3d ago
wait so shouldnt it be wrt ground
Percy
PercyOP3d ago
yeah

so whats your doubt lol

Solution For A stick of length L is dropped from a high tower. An ant sitting at the lower end of the stick begins to crawl up at the instant the stic

Gamertug3d ago
there is no definite end point velocity of ant wrt to stick is fixed , it can travel the whole stick
Percy
PercyOP3d ago
yup exactly lemme see
Sephrina
Sephrina3d ago
how ? see the stick is going down na so g will be applied on ant and the stick
Gamertug
Gamertug3d ago
so is ant , force on both is same , there acc is same , there is no relative acc
Sephrina
Sephrina3d ago
mass isnt same so force isnt same
Gamertug
Gamertug3d ago
mb , i wanted to say a is same
Sephrina
Sephrina3d ago
yeah a is same
Gamertug
Gamertug3d ago
so it can travel the whole stick
Sephrina
Sephrina3d ago
but break it and then apply thinking of urself as the ant
Gamertug
Gamertug3d ago
wait oh shi @Percy its not talking abt the stick
Sephrina
Sephrina3d ago
and even if travels all the stick lets just assume it travalled a height could be the length of stick or anything but since yaha ant pe bhi g hai
Gamertug
Gamertug3d ago
no , but i understand it now what the question trying to ask ,
Sephrina
Sephrina3d ago
isilye one point pe aake uska velocity zero ho jaygea
Gamertug
Gamertug3d ago
its basically projectile motion if u kinda look at it max highet = U^2 /2g whats the ans @Percy not relative to stick , relative to ground
Sephrina
Sephrina3d ago
this only hn frame of refernce ka concept hai main
hardcoreisdead
so max height wrt stick?
Gamertug
Gamertug3d ago
no
hardcoreisdead
u is vel of ant wrt stick and 2g is accn of ant wrt to stick
Gamertug
Gamertug3d ago
, no acc wrt to stick is 0
hardcoreisdead
oh hn then 2g kaise
Percy
PercyOP3d ago
u^2/2g
Gamertug
Gamertug3d ago
2g what u^2 / 2g , its the formula for max height when we throw something straight upward can get that by energy conservation
hardcoreisdead
oh yeah
Gamertug
Gamertug3d ago
1/2mv^2 = mgh
Percy
PercyOP3d ago
what is wrong with this explanation?
Gamertug
Gamertug3d ago
nothing
Percy
PercyOP3d ago
according to that logic ant should be able to travel the entire stick
Gamertug
Gamertug3d ago
we were focused on stick , it can travel the whole stick , ye but wrt to initail hieght on ground frame it can only travel some max heigt the question said stick is sufficiently long , which means ant can reach max hiehgt
Percy
PercyOP3d ago
I am so sorry but I still dont get it
Gamertug
Gamertug3d ago
ok so see stick is comign down with acc g ant is also coming down with acc g ant has v wrt to stick and initail stick velocity is 0 so ant was going up v , at t=0 its basically projectile throw a ball up with velocit v and find max height
Percy
PercyOP3d ago
ohhh, so basically this entire time we have been trying to find the distance travelled by ant on stick but in reality we were supposed to find max height possible by ant
Gamertug
Gamertug3d ago
ye the stick and ant was just there for throwing off
Percy
PercyOP3d ago
yeahhh that makes sense thank you sooo much for the clear explanation
hardcoreisdead
wait dont close
Percy
PercyOP3d ago
kk
hardcoreisdead
what do u mean by "max height " stick is falling down and so is ant
Gamertug
Gamertug3d ago
ant has velocity up v , and acc g down so there will be a max height it reaches
hardcoreisdead
max height on what stick? or wrt ground
Gamertug
Gamertug3d ago
on nothin , just wrt to its initial positon as mentioned in question
hardcoreisdead
initial position se toh gir hi rhi hai woh ant "max" kaise hua fir
Gamertug
Gamertug3d ago
its not falling down , its going up , velocity v first its going up think of throwing a ball up , it has g down v uop it goes up then comes down and reaches a max height
hardcoreisdead
if u throw a stick from a tower with ant on it then the final position of ant is def lower than initial tho
Gamertug
Gamertug3d ago
we aint even talkin abt final imagine v = 100m/s it will take 10 sec for gravity to make it 0 till then it will clim if v = 0.2 , it will take gravity 0.02 sec to make it 0 till then it will climb max height
Percy
PercyOP2d ago
can I close it now
hardcoreisdead
yepp
