I'm not sure why I'm getting this error.... I downloaded only from microsoft official things?
So for some reason there's a non trusted instance being used for the license? Which I don't quite get, nor do I understand how to resolve it (as I don't know what the actual issue is...)

downloaded from right here

the installer then prompted me to the ssms page, from which I then downloaded that
I don't know how to solve this, but the error doesn't seem to have anything to do with a license, but instead with an SSL certificate
oh, oops right it says "certificationchain'" in dutch
if thats an actual 1 to 1 translation
at a guess, something somewhere is using a self-signed certificate where the root isn't installed on the machine trying to make a connection
at another wild guess, it might be that the client and server aren't in the same domain, and there isn't a trust connection between the two domains they are in... but that's just a wild guess based on 15 year old (not continuous 15 year, 15 year old, as in Windows Server 2010 stuff) Microsoft knowledge
when microsoft applications don't wanna work along with microsoft applications :((
Likeee, the server its connecting to is the SQL server I downloaded from microsofts very own page
which tne also made me install the SSMS (the manager tool)
they should both be on my C, haven't used my D at all yet
would the trace help at all? that longass text of the path it took to the error

^ thjis one
probably not, no
like, the error is pretty cut and dry, the certificate the server is using isn't trusted by the client
that usually means you need to either reinstall the server certificate, or install the root certificate the server's certificate is signed with on your machine
but I left the Microsoft world a long time ago. I mostly just wanted to try to point you in the right direction and away from licensing issues, cause that's not what's going on here
well... I already reinstalled both, didn't seem to do anything
that's also why yo usee two servers on the sql server config manager...one closed one open, bc I couldn't find the old one
and it didnt wanna take the new one lol, it ended up getting an error then when both were open
I suppose its bc they shared a name

but this thing says trusted_connection=true, I suppose thats not the thing then
you could try changing that to false
probably need to do that in the config manager somehow then right about now...nice lol
i suppose this isnt it

doesn't look like it, no
mann I can't figure it out
btw
whats the difference between an agent n a server n do they both have to be on for it to work or not
not sure, tbh
its actually having the right thing here though
I mean ig otheriwse it wouldnt be able to cnnect but okay

i cant even find the uninstall.exe to uninstall one of them lol
ARE YOU KIDDING ME
THIS WHOLE TIME THERE WAS A CHECKBOX TO TRUST SERVER CERTIFðŸ˜
oh no! Glad you found it!
i mean, tbf, we both looked over it
but its crazy how easily it was to spot n yet it was missed by both 😠i feel dumb now
