As an Army veteran, you’re thinking too much into it.
Unless you were specifically instructed by your recruiter to bring dress shirts, I’d personally opt for a polo for the sake of comfort.

You’re going to want to look presentable but also prioritize comfort

But yah assuming he gets boot leave post basic id say bring nothing and then only pack like maybe two-three sets of civvies for AIT/MCT if it applies. A school pack enough to not look like a dork on libo wearing a polo tucked into cargo shorts everywhere
