wearing a tuxedo jacket as a black suit?

I have a tuxedo jacket, but I don't have a black suit jacket. When I have to wear blacks for performances, I have been wearing the tuxedo jacket with full blacks (no bow tie, with black shirt) Its a peak lapel tuxedo jacket that almost looks like a regular suit jacket, but its shiny on the front seam bit or whatever its called. Am I looking like an idiot? thanks.

if it's something you have to wear for a performance (or a uniform etc) it doesn't really matter IMO. It probably doesn't look "the best" but you've got to ask yourself if it's worth spending money on something that for most people isn't that useful [a black suit], to look marginally better to a bunch of nerds who obsess over details when you're doing a performance for a limited amount of time and which requires a dress code you can otherwise meet.

I bought a tuxedo becuase I needed one for peformances (several months) But now-days all my performances are concert blacks. Idk Its a tough one It does look slightly funny having the tuxedo jacket, but you are right, that its a pain to own both. I did a black suit jacket from my neighbour, but its slightly to big, but I could probably get it tailored. THing is though, would it matter if the colour of the blacks didnt match 100%? You do always want to look your best when you perform

yes, but "best" in what way. "best" to a menswer nerd is different to best to a normal person is different to best to someone in the music world etc. It's fine if you want to blend both and get a nice black suit - but you probably don't need to. If you're going down the route of being menswear nerdy about it, non matching blacks is going to look worse than wearing a tux IMO.
