HDMI & LG G4 TV
Context:
Purchased a LG G4 TV to pair with my Bazzite Home PC, it’s using a 7090XTX and a 5700x3d cpu. I also purchased a cable matters display port to HDMI 2.1 cable as I’ve seen many forum posts discussing the issue of HDMI 2.1 and Linux.
Issue:
Using the display port adapter, I had no luck getting it work, 120hz options not possible, 60fps are the only options in steam game mode. Tried setting it desktop mode, try changing all kinds of settings on the TV, no dice.
Quirks:
During my troubleshooting, to my surprise, I tried plugging in a HDMI cable and bam, 120hz and HDR workng. Is there something I’m missing here? Isn’t this not supposed to work? Any type of help information to help me better understand this is appreciated.
Questions:
Why did the hdmi cable work? And why did the adapter not? Any type of information or background on the subject is appreciated!

display port to hdmi isn't a real thing and every adapter while it may adapt the signal still is unsupported
also 120hz 4k is fine on hdmi 2.0 iirc
I’m confused, am I losing something with this spec? Will there be some type of issue? I always thought this wasn’t supported?
hdmi 2.0 is supported
2.1 is proprietary
Sorry, I meant. I didn’t think hdmi 2.0 was capable of 4k 120hz
oh
no its not
sorry im sleepless
Lol then how the heck is it working for me?
are you sure its 120hz?
or if it's 4k
Yeah absolutely
Unless steam fps tracker and my eyes are lying to me
