Nvidia Graphics 2070 Not Recognized

Well, it’s the fathomed Linux NVIDIA problem. Nvidia-smi and switcherooctl don’t detect it but it’s visible via lshw. I’m using bazzite Nvidia open variant. Any advice on how to get it working?

I'd try rebase to a an older image in bazzite and see if the problem persists there https://docs.bazzite.gg/Installing_and_Managing_Software/Updates_Rollbacks_and_Rebasing/bazzite_rollback_helper/

I moved gpus around 2 days ago and rebased a system to the most current open stable Nvidia build for an RTX 2060 6GB with no issues. By chance do you get any warnings/errors around UEFI? In these situations, be it Windows or Linux, I will typically 1st move the PCI-E card to a different slot temporarily (usually a x4 or x8) to see if the card BIOS is picked up properly. Then troubleshoot from there.

New to bazzite, is there a way to check? Also unfortunately there’s only 1 slot when i install it says "X or window manager startup failed, falling back to text mode

Do you know how to get into and check your BIOS? If the card is being detected in Windows but not in Bazzite, then your BIOS is probably set to CSM/Compatibility. If it is set to this, try switching to UEFI mode.

for the windows install i was actually in Legacy, but for Bazzite i am in UEFI i also tried NVK and a few other things but still nothing do you think i should try installing in Legacy mode? I moved to the oldest available. It took me off the NVIDIA image. Now my GPU outputs a black screen instead of literally nothing Gonna try the official installer to see what will happen For NVIDIA drivers After it built kernel modules my integrated now does the same as my NVIDIA gpu and is only black Rebooted, gonna try launching the CLI and installing NVIDIA that way Unfortunately still nothing Is there anything I can do here? It seems like no Linux distro is able to recognize my card

You have a 2070 so you should be fully supported on pretty much every linux distro, so it's weird that it's not working. It's probably a bios setting that is wrong somewhere Is your bios up to date?

latest yeah Nouveau is able to do it on most distros but the official drivers can't?

Nouveau works well for accelerated 2d rendering but it's not quite there for 3d. You could try rebasing to the just bazzite:stable (which doesn't have the nvidia drivers but only nouveau) the desktop will work just fine but don't think you'll be able to do much gaming

ah :( there's nothing in my bios to do with PCIE devices I forgot to mention, this motherboard is VERY obscure It’s for the Dell Inspiron 660s Quite locked down and incompatible with most things

Might be the age of the mainboard that model was released in 2012. Some boards just aren't as linux compatible as others.

It does on paper look like your system will work with Nvidia cards if they work within the power limitations of your power supply.

Yeah..Thanks. Looks like an incomplete step to validate presence of Nvidia drivers. Removed that post. Switching planes atm and missed it.

Yeah I already replaced the old PSU The only things not replaced in the PC are the motherboard and hard drive Maybe found the issue? I had “Load Legacy OPROM” on? this might have been part of it. I had UEFI enabled but "Load Legacy OPROM" on enabled disabling it and trying to reinstall bazzite now It was not :(
