2. Yes, AMD (7600)
3. I'm not sure how to find that out. Motherboard is B650-M. I'm sure it does but I have no way of verifying.
4. "ujust"?
for your sake I will do more research as there are some guides made by others like Chris Titus Tech on YT.
My main concern is that most guides assume an AMD GPU.
also that my GPU is quite old now
I found this on reddit so you might have a problem with gpu passthrough on your main board https://www.reddit.com/r/VFIO/comments/1cq5eiy/comment/l3x2ooe/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

this person uses b550 though
they also didn't mention their GPU
I intend to get an AMD GPU at some point in the future. Do you think I should avoid the hassle and just wait until I get it?
also, I did a bare metal Windows install yesterday. after experimenting with games on linux, and playing the 1 game that only works on Win (COD BO6, which is garbage), I've come to the conclusion I don't even think I need Windows at all.
i also discovered windows installs itself onto other drives even after it's already been installed, like during major updates.
i absolutely do not want that to happen (again)
windows is complete garbage at this point and I don't even think I need it anymore
For Windows, I would go with rufus and going with the Windows to go option.
ah yeah I was just looking that up
quick question
if I installed windows already (on nvme disk), can I run it externally?
Then it shouldn't mess with anything. And if gives you a backup plan if you really want to play something that is Windows specific
assuming win 10 home
Or would I need Win to go
Windows tends to complain if you have it installed on something external. But I haven't tried that in years so maybe it's changed. Note sure
Okay
seems like to go is designed for business purposes. Does it come with any downsides / bloatware or configurations that would be bad for gaming?
Windows to go was designed that way and for Enterprise Windows only. Then they abandoned the project. Rufus made it possible to use Windows to Go with any version of Windows. So it should be much less painful than installing Windows in the traditional way
oh, so "to go" is not so much a version as it is a way to compile any version of windows
in that case I might use that
Yeah you just give it a normal Windows ISO from microsoft and it installs it in a different way
I normally use gnome disks to format drives with ISOs. So only Rufus has this functionality
that you know of
Yeah only rufus has this functionality as far as I know
Honestly though it sounds like you might not need Windows at all.
But sometimes having a backup portable drive is nice for that odd occasion where you need something that doesn't have a linux version
And it's WAY less effort than doing a VM with GPU passthrough
Yeah
To Go works on NVME yes?
the reason I'm looking into this is because W10 will be deprecrated at some point, and I'm not sure if the LTSC version comes with security updates to the same degree. So at some point W11 may be the only option.
and I refuse to install W11 unless it's in a VM
I treat windows like any other virus
