How do I get to grub when I cant see anything?
I can see the OS login page
But upon logging in I cant do anything
the grub menu should show up in the next boot if you long press the power button
if it doesn't, try mashing the esc button when you are booting up
using the bios boot menu also works
just need to boot to the older deployment

select one of the ostree:1 entries
Nothing comes up ...
can you get into the bios?
Got into the grub screen but I went back from that screen
How do I get into that view?
the grub screen?
or do you mean bios
I spammed escape too hard and I'm in grub>
A terminal view
good
But mine is a text based terminal where I type commands not a selection screen like yours
hmm
It went to same as urs but spamming took me out
try pressing enter once?
esc is "return to previous menu" in grub
Finally on that screen
use up/down arrow key to navigate
select ostree:1
press enter to boot
I have 2
any of the ostree:1 entries are fine
the double entries will be fixed in fedora 42
Aha
are you in?
Now how do i stop that crap happening again
open terminal app of your choice
and then use
just curious, are you installing it on a laptop with an amd apu?
Nope pc with nvidia gpu
hmmm
might just be a one off due to nvidia stuff
if you feel comfortable and have spare time, you can try upgrading again
I wanna fix helldivers on my windows boot first lmao
also, just to be certain, can you run , just to see which build you are currently on?
I rebooted after doing rpm-ostree rollback and it's still black screen
Could it be a multi monitor 5120x1440 and 3440x1440 issue?
could be
try booting with only one monitor plugged in
Not easy to do unfortunately
ah
are you still in a black screen?
Atm yea
try press ctrl+alt+F3
Nothing
you should get into a tty
So i sign in and it goes black screen and goes do one
On both monitors
But if I use pip on my 5120x1440 no issues (2 2560x1440 and 1 3440x1440)
after you sign in on the tty, can you get back into the normal session with ctrl+alt+f1?
41.2020325
Is the version
If i boot on the dumb ass way where I cant use the os properly for gaming
there should be no difference whether you enter the grub menu or not
just that normally the grub menu is hidden
*besides booting to a different deployment
I can only get into the os and have it display on my monitor in pip mode on my monitor

The 2 different shades are different "desktops"
ah i see
I don't have a rollback point
From the looks of it
Bazzite was working fucking fine this morning
only a single deployment?
Seemingly
did you install it just this morning
I've had bazzite for a few months
I have a file I can use to boot to my windows drive if needed
But it seems bazzite has auto updated and broken everything
huh that's weird, it should keep the last deployment every update
Let me guess I'm not able to use it now
do you have bazzite and windows on separate drives or the same one?
Separate
If i switch the monitor to 5120x1440 mode it crashes bazzite what the fucking shit
wat
how
I don't know
Something in this update has fucked this up
I just want to use my computer after a fucking shit day at work
ok let's try to downgrade to the older build, is that ok for you?
How do we do that
and just to be extra sure, can you paste/screenshot/take a screen photo of the output?
dw i will walk you through it
Version is what I typed earlier
.
is it bazzite-nvidia-open?
Bazzite-nvidia-open
yeah ok let's try to downgrade
do you have any layered packages?

hmmm
Pretty new to Linux as you can tell
ah don't worry
you are currently on the 20250216.1 build
I thought I was on 20250325 build
there is a "•" dot next to the booted deployment

this is after you ran the , but no reboots since?
I'm on the one i thought right?
from my understanding you are currently booted to 20250325 and experiencing the black screen crash
Yes
what we need to do is to go back to 20250216.1
How do we do that
should set 20250216.1 back to being the primary deploment(ostree:0)
Now I need to run systemctl reboot?
yes
It booted me to grub for 2 milliseconds and then straight into an os
that is fine, after you log in, do you have the black screen bug/crash?
...
I hate this os
It's now saying both versions are 20250325
all i wanted to do was sit down
boot into windows
play some helldivers if it works (which it didnt which is how i found this bullshit issue)
and now
i have a paper weight
ok don't worry, we can still fix this
in this case,
run that and then what?
and then reboot after it finishes
this will rebase you back to the 20250216 build
if this fixes it ill disable auto updates if thats possible
that is possible with
but for now just let it rebase and reboot after that
Right it's booted into 20250216.1 I cannot tell if it fixed the issue without a 2nd reboot
Is there a way to keep this as the correct version?
When i reboot
ostree will by default, boot to the ostree deployment with the lowest number(which is usually ostree:0)
so in theory the one i just launched into?
you should be able to see which deployment is booted by using
including which one is the primary(ostree:0)
index:0
is that it?
yep
ok cool
not to see if issue is fixed
Nope for fuck sake
I don't get this
Why is it suddenly not liking any monitor when it's using my g9 in 5120x1440 mode
It was fine
Nothing has changed
oh
Maybe it's an issue with plasma?
If i press the power button the bazzite logo comes back up as if its shutting down
nothing should be changed since you are now on the same image as without the problem though
that is normal, the bazzite loading screen shows up both during boot and shutdown
That's my point i login and that's where I get the black screen
So maybe plasma is the issue?
yea, then it looks like a plasma(kwin) issue
How can we trouble shoot this?
but i don't really know why it would just break like that
the first thing we can try to do is to switch display ports, but you said it was not easy to do
The monitor is connected fine and works fine in windows and pip mode
one thing i could thing of is that the multi-monitor config(monitor positions&stuff) might be somehow borked and plasma is trying to load it
How do i find this
you can try to press the reset button in kde setting, under the display configuration tab
Greyed out
hmm
maybe try to use the "prefer efficiency" option and switch back to 5120×1440
under color accuracy
If needs be is there a way to fresh install bazzite without a usb
well, its a plasma issue
You are fucking kidding me
It's not plasma
It's samsung being shit
oh
And plasma
It's a VRR/"game mode" issue
freesync option in the display?
Which is also how it enables HDR
I just can't use that with bazzite I guess
Or it's a nvidia driver issue atm
vrr & hdr?

NVIDIA Driver 570.86.15 Breaks Wayland Display Restoration on RTX 4...
Description: Under Wayland on Kubuntu 24.10 with NVIDIA driver 570.86.15, turning off and on a Samsung G95SC monitor (connected via DisplayPort to an RTX 4070 SUPER) results in a blank screen requiring a TTY switch (TTY3 → TTY1) to restore the display. The same issue occurs when taking screenshots with Spectacle. Downgrading to driver 550 (e....
atleast i can boot into my windows OS for now
ig just have to wait for nvidia to fix that then
All that headache because of nvidia I apologise for the mini rant btw
ah no worries we all have that sometimes
Just a headache to have that after helldivers seemingly "bricked" my computer
