Dress Shoe Sizing
Buying my first pair of dress shoes so I went to a Nordstrom to use a Brannock device and find my shoe size. The device said 9.5 so I tried on a derby 9.5 in their house brand. If I was purchasing say Alden used or Allen Edmonds used would I also go 9.5? I would probably be looking at a derby as opposed to an Oxford.
Also, when matching color to my belt, do I just use my best guess if I can’t view both leathers in store?

I would say alden is around your brannock sizing but it depends on the last
example, the barrie last is considered wider than the grant last so its possible you size down on barrie, but that also depends on your foot width as well
Yeah I have a standard foot width according to Brannock

Alden Shoes: Sizing Guide
Lasts
Alden's lasts may seem a little confusing to first-time buyers. Our posters in the Alden thread for 2016 (archived pre-2016 Alden thread here) have a wealth of experience and knowledge about Alden sizes. We were able to compile this guide...
Thank you. Makes me nervous to buy online without much time to ship back but I think that’ll help.
for your belt question, yes. dark brown, light brown, black are the only categories you need
matching shades within those is for big leather nerds
