Tie alternative exploration
I've always thought the little band of color on a clerical collar was a good look, and I've lost interest in ties. So I borrowed a shirt from a clerical friend and did a quick experiment with fabric from an old shirt. Worth experimenting with other colors and patterns? Am I always going to be presumed to be a priest?

yeah I probably wouldn't do this
looks great bud
If i saw you id think you’d be here to exorcize the area
If youre over ties why not venture into collars? Bows? More non traditional ties like square ones?
Bandanas i feel would sort of fit the criteria you seem to be looking for
Bummer
I liked the idea of something even simpler than a tie while maintaining formality. For casual summer I have bandanas ready to go
When you say venture into collars, what do you mean by that?
Some brands offer a variety of collars that you can put on separately onto outfits, though i feel that ventures more outside formal wear
Like this sherpa one as an example

Oh that's interesting. This is just a bit of play to see what options I could turn to when a tie is normally called for, so I'll look into that
bolo tie would be an option i think, especially since you can find a minimal slide
Yeah bolo tie would be the move here. Please don’t wear a clerical collar lol
Have you considered a necklace
Historically no, but now that you mention it I'll reconsider
I had only perceived those as being decidedly western, but a quick search found some that aren't so obviously so
@halfmoonscoobler Look into Lemaire's shirting.

These have the shape of a clerical collar but are sufficiently different so as not to make it look like you're doing stolen valor for priesthood.
I adore the Vareuse in particular

Really want one in chalk
Sure, I'll give it a try! Are you suggesting a silk scarf under the shirt collar like a tie? Or with the shirt open? I tried a silk ascot for a wedding recently and that worked for that wedding, tho a little flamboyant for me
These are fantastic! I like the idea of a shirt that looks complete without additional neckware altogether, I hadn't considered that. Lemaire is out of my budget, but you've given me something new to look for.
(I had the same stolen valor thought)
