Formality of shoes and shorts
If wearing shorts is considered 'informal'.. why is it that pairing it with plain white low proifle sneakers or the shoe in the image i've linked considered more dress appropraite than wearing nike sneakers with shorts?
Can someone explain to me the purpose difference between a nike basketball shoe/trainers vs these casual shoes?

I own a pair of black and white combo airforces. I guess im just trying to compare formality between them
Because of the neutral cultural connotation of the shoes you linked. they communicate as little character as possible
if you wear basketball shoes you're inherently communicating sportswear in a way wether it be direct or indirect
I think if you are questioning formality you should look into buying a pair of shoes other than sneakers
the casual shoes also are visually closer to a dress shoe (low-profile, single color). that's not to say they're formal but people are less quick to asume they're informal
its also going to depend on who's looking at u. the pictured shoes/low profile white sneakers dont look more or less formal to my eye, they look like outdated trends.
I live in Australia. Its hot. If I want to go to an event or something, it would be nice to still look realitively formal with shorts. I just dont know how tf to do that
Thanks for that
What would u suggest?
loafers, sandals, maryjanes, etc. If it's an issue of heat, linen pants can be a bit more formal than shorts IMO and do a solid job at temp regulation.
sandals are more formal than white sneakers?
interesting
leather sandals in particular
its all contextual. fisherman sandals can be more formal than white sneakers. tevas will just looks like gorpy beachwear.
interesting
for me loafers and shorts or light pants are a pretty basic way to go about things but there's a lot of options
there's a good number of fits in #waywt as far as options; search

especially for fits from The Teenage Gentleman (sioku), cirque and me lolah check, Australia is very relaxed when it comes to formalwear from what I've experienced. I think some loafers will do the trick.
fisherman sandals are also good but might get interpreted as just sandals
while this might not be the most formal fit, I do think its interesting to put this in the convo
to show that loafers can work well with shorts
