Big map

Hello, I plan on creating a survival gamemode that requires a large map. (150k x 150k), and I was wondering if it is still recommended to pregenerate the chunks, because the world folder will instantly be huge. Or is it in this case better to not pregen? Thanks in advance! And how much storage would I need for such a map?

You are level 1 and have 387 XP. You need a total of 515 XP to reach level 2. You are #165 on the leaderboard.

I pre-generated a 10k x 10k world last week - I think it wasn't far off 50 GB.

Uh 1.21 was for 100k radius around 1-1.1 tb 75k is probably around 600-800? Would still very much do it

just have to remember that it's exponential, so if we say 10k x 10k is 23gb, then 20k x 20k is 74gb, then 40k x 40k is 277gb and so on...

Is there any way to optimize to use the least amount of storage possible?

paper lets you change the compression, but idk what has the best compression format is https://docs.papermc.io/paper/reference/global-configuration#unsupported_settings_compression_format

why not just pregen up to about 10kx10k, so that it will usually only be 1-2 players at a time generating new chunks? Most people tend to stay within 10kx10k most of the time, so as to be close to others or spawn camp people or whatever.

Not in this gamemode tho, it’s a survival gamemode where pvp and destroying is heavily endorsed so players will tend to spread out as much as possible.

Yeah I get that, but if you pregen a world that size you will end up with at least 1.5 - 2TB being used

no most likely not anywhere near tat that*

You just said 100k was 1.1TB Logic would dictate adding 50k would add at least 500GB since it’s exponential Usually ppl mean radius when they say their world size but I could be wrong

radius 150k by 150k is 75k radius way bigger if its 150k radius yeah

I’ve heard lots of people say they had a 20kx20k world and turns out they’re talking about radius bc that’s what they set the world border at @Louis_Dew is the radius 150k or the diameter

sure but you cant base every question on that imo

Diameter

Ok then DK is right it’ll probably be around 600-800GB, and worth pregenning if you’ve got the storage

Hmm alright thanks! I will prob have to upgrade the storage. What diameter would be around 200GB?

So 50k x 50k is around 300GB

Im wrong That includes my Bluemap So it’s probably around 150Gb ish

Damn bluemap takes some storage O_o

It takes about as much as the world itself lol

Thats why I'm not a fan of bluemap tbh

My MySQL db for Bluemap is 400GB+, and I have my main world map for the server it’s hosted on stored locally, so that’s another 200GB or so

Louis_DewOP3w ago
Thats a lot

Torrent3w ago
Like 600GB of storage for Bluemap alone

What server provider do you use for your server and your storage if I may ask?

I have a dedi with roboticnode Is pretty good, had some issues with the subnet we were using recently but it got sorted. Performing very well We ran a 92k per hour cobblestone farm with not even a 0.01 drop in tps
