getting oil stains out of a vintage jumpsuit
I found this at a vintage store, it's a WW II army jumpsuit that apparently had a second life as coveralls at a local car shop. Planning on putting some patches or appliques on and using as a party outfit. The oil stains are cool but they are very caked in and kind of smell and my girlfriend won't go near it lol
Any recommendations for at least partially getting the oil stains out or neutralizing the smell? I've heard Gojo or Murphy's Oil Soap might help.

dawn dish soap may also help you out with this
that’s what they use for the duckies

dawn is particularly good at breaking down oil
thanks, will try that for the first pass!
unfortunately dawn seems to be doing approximately nothing to the stains
Are you letting it sit for a while
no, will try that, just was scrubbing with a cloth and could tell from lack of discoloration on the cloth that nothing was coming off. the stains are basically a layer of hardened oil
Homie, motor oil barely comes out of shit if you let it set for a DAY let alone several decades. This is Sisyphean.
damn guess I will try and see if oxi or murphy's at least helps with the smell and then give up
If it doesn’t work out, you’ve at least got something to clean in
I've had some success so far removing excess dried oil with a razor blade after a wash. hoping vinegar or baking soda might help with the smell
this is gonna be a project though lol
@tedtocks do you do caving?
the stains look kinda cool tbh lean into the look, if soap didnt do it i really dont think anything else will without damage to the clothes
Spelunking of any kind?
Agree they are sick they just smell like a garage and I don't want to subject people to that... If I could keep them without the smell I would
