New build goes to black screen after loading Steam for the first time

Installation of Bazzite 41 from the latest image seems to go successfully. I reboot as prompted, I skip MOK management and continue boot, updating kargs from the Bazzite loading screen happens, the system reboots itself again back to the Bazzite loading screen, then a big Steam symbol with a smaller overlayed Bazzite logo pops up while a 473MB update downloads, it says "update complete, launching Steam..." then I only get a black screen. That's as far as the system gets. The system does respond to control alt F2, but I'm not sure what to do from there.
If it matters, I've had my HDMI cable plugged into the mobo instead of the graphics card.
I am a first-time Bazzite user. Your help is highly appreciated. Thank you for your time!

plug the hdmi cable into the graphic card
gamemode automatically goes to the dedicated gpu and your cable has to be connected to the dedicated gpu
