deadstock denim care!

hello, i recently just purchased a pair of deadstock 70s ish denim on ebay, and friends and family are telling me to wash it before wearing it out. However, i am terrified of bleeding/fading, as well as shrinkage in length, (width probably would be fine, a little loose in the waistband). Is washing it advised/if it is, what is the best and safest way to wash? also i have another pair of 70s deadstock coming in in a couple hours, and also would like opinions on washing the 101j that just arrived that i am also wearing thank you so much:)

I think with those being polyester there is less risk of shrinkage. But in general cold water and hang dry will result in less shrinkage . That 101 looks like it’s been washed before so it shouldn’t shrink more if you’re careful .

look for all the raw denim guides that got popular 10 years ago. Basically 1. Gentle detergent and cool water 2. Agitate as little as needed 3. Hang Dry

yeah with all delicate secondhand clothes i fill a bathtub with cool water with a tiny bit of gentle detergent (i’ve used Dr Bronners with success) and very gently agitate
