Initial notes from thread 1 about clothes: - Tops in inspo 1 show much more volume on top than in your fit pics - Most of the pants pictured have wide legs, especially barrel leg/balloon leg

I think I like the tops in 1 5 and 10 here As a starting point, I really like the drapes of the tops in 1 and 10 And I really like the layering details in 5 With that said, I think all the other fits look visually well balanced too

Shrimp•5d ago
Can you find some more inspo pics that you like?
Saltbender
SaltbenderOP•5d ago

I'll be honest I had a really hard time divorcing "liking the top" and "liking the fit"
Shrimp
Shrimp•5d ago
Thats totally fine I’m seeing a lot of oversize and knits And earthy colors Pulling this off takes a lot of trial and error with picking pieces to buy

Shrimp•5d ago
This outfit of your is definitely getting you a good bit of the way there But I think a more oversized outer layer would aid this a bit
Saltbender
SaltbenderOP•5d ago
Yes, looking at my fits alot of them have constrained sleeves Which makes things feel off for mw Uhhh, care to elaborate more on this? Is this about figuring what brands and cuts work to achieve that effect
Shrimp
Shrimp•5d ago
Finding some of these oversized pieces can be trial and error until you get the sort of oversized effect you’re looking for Especially when doing things like second-hand shopping
Saltbender
SaltbenderOP•5d ago
I think I could explore cropped jackets too I'm looking at the inspo and quite a few have shirts peeking under jackets
Shrimp
Shrimp•5d ago
yeah, a lot of your inspo is untucked I'd really love to see you get an oversized sweater maybe with a layered cardigan like this

Shrimp•5d ago
also while there isnt a ton of it in your inspo, I think one way of adding visual interest on top is to add in accessories if you dont want to accessorize then I'd focus on textures, drape, materials, details, etc of whatever you're wearing on top

Do you have any brand recs for oversized tops at £100-£200 ($120-$240) per piece, ime alot of oversized tops cuts only seem to exist in fast fashion or designer brands
Shrimp
Shrimp•5d ago
I'm in the US so not everything will be available or as cheap, but I'll do some digging the first would be Anglan 🥲

I've posted alot of wide leg pant inspo. These brands are not all cheap, but often have a lot of oversized tops for browsing https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1117803378521673768/1338564793493098607

SaltbenderOP•5d ago
Yeah I feel like I'm should consider more details when layering, but im not quite sure where to start
Shrimp
Shrimp•5d ago
actually the rest of my inspo posts are too expensive
Saltbender
SaltbenderOP•5d ago
I think my turtleneck inner layer was a right step? I've been eyeing ymc lately lmao But retails prices feel high :/
Shrimp
Shrimp•5d ago
Theres a decent amount of it on grailed last time I looked
Saltbender
SaltbenderOP•5d ago
Fun fact their cd is sage nation
Shrimp
Shrimp•5d ago
also you can always buy sized up clothes
Saltbender
SaltbenderOP•5d ago
Yeah good amount on vinted too, but I think they've shifted alot over the last 6 months, so the wide pants/oversized tops might not apply to their older stuff
Shrimp
Shrimp•5d ago
Uniqlo, Muji and Cos will sometimes have pieces that work and Zara
Saltbender
SaltbenderOP•5d ago
Yeah I should try this more often
Shrimp
Shrimp•5d ago
I would generally be wary of materials of fast fashion brands, but its not all bad stuff
Saltbender
SaltbenderOP•5d ago
I sized up on this muji shirt and I think it worked well

Shrimp
Shrimp•5d ago
agreed, I think thats one of the strongest fits you posted
Saltbender
SaltbenderOP•5d ago
I think generally when shopping in person this will be my next step And hopefully I'll get enough pics for feedback so that I can avoid the whole "wearing dads hand me downs" vibe that I'm quite scared of
Shrimp
Shrimp•5d ago
idk, as long as it looks intentional it looks good and everything you've posted as looked very intentional If you want additional inspo, some of my favorites lookbooks are Anglan, Sillage, Needles, Jan Jan Van Esche, Evan Kinori, and Dries van Noten
Saltbender
SaltbenderOP•5d ago
Oh yes ill definitely keep these brands (look books) on my radar Also, these fits are from a dutch brand called newspeak studio and you might like them too Their pants were a brainworm of mine for a while Thanks for going through my fits and inspo @shrimp

Shrimp•5d ago

Hi, I haven’t completely read this feedback to try to not be biased but two things that stick out are your footwear choices and your pants fabric. I think the footwear can be improved, as your two toned shoes are pretty chunky and lean outdoorsy which clashes with the more tailoring approach you have with your tops and bottoms. I would probably go with something more formal and slimmer. As for the sneakers, I think for the city boy aesthetic they need a bit of a scrubbing bc that aesthetic is very much about clean oversized minimalism. One thing that sticks out about your bottoms is the way that they drape. I’m not sure the material but it looks to be very wool-y so there’s very little creasing, making it look kind like you’re wearing a wool blanket. For example on shrimps first photo he posted of you with the denim pants, it doesn’t really flow the way that chinos or jeans in a city boy style flow, which is more rigid. You can see this in your inspiration that those pants are rigid. This also is apparent in the cargo striped pants. I’m not sure what those pants are trying to achieve in your fits because the material is very casual but it’s worn in a formal manner. It would be nice to have some pleating or a crease to add to the formality to risk it not looking like sweatpants. I’m also not sure what the cargo pocket adds since the material isn’t very workwear either. I think more rigid pants or at least more wrinkle-able pants would benefit your wardrobe

howell and studio nicholson second hand is a good source of oversized stuff
Saltbender
SaltbenderOP•5d ago
yeah quite a lot of their stuff pops up on vinted i think used story could be a good move too
WieDelphine
WieDelphine•5d ago
Yeah, although it sort of leans a bit crunchier than the stuff you've posted, the sizing is good our legacy borrowed shirts are good as well, normally like 50 quid used also whats the 4th inspo pic from? It looks hed mayner esque but wasnt sure
Saltbender
SaltbenderOP•5d ago
thanks for chiming in, it'll take a while for me to digest this 😅
Saltbender
SaltbenderOP•5d ago
This one? it's from a dutch designed called newspeak studios

WieDelphine
WieDelphine•5d ago
yeah that one, its great
Saltbender
SaltbenderOP•5d ago
I'll start by addressing the pants and the two tone shoes, I think I'm trying to not play it too straight with the formality, and I thought those pieces would help deliver a more playful take on tailoring. For the pants specifically, I thought they would be cool subversion since pinstripe wool slacks would be fairly formal, but the cut and cargo pockets subvert that?
Saltbender
SaltbenderOP•5d ago
I think you're onto something with the drape though, I think these are also soft wool/wool blend pants, but they have more pleating/structure so they fall differently

I have some city boy pics from when I first started my inspo folder, and you're right on the more rigid pants fabrics

crunchier?

WieDelphine•5d ago
erm, sort of gorpy/ like nature based
sharloy
sharloy•5d ago
Left is more similar to yours and right is more linen-y so it has more folds on top. Both are more of a barrel silhouette which helps not totally engulf the shoes I think these are just not wide enough for the aesthetic you’re going for haha
Saltbender
SaltbenderOP•5d ago
Do you have any comments on the tops?
sharloy
sharloy•5d ago
Looks good! Again I’d pay attention to materials

For example I don’t really like how the sleeve bunches like this Which is either material based or fit based idk
sharloy

This is good drape

SaltbenderOP•5d ago
I think it's both, the creases set in over time to follow my arm curvature when using a computer, and the shirt sleeve underneath is just as wide as the jacket sleeve good spot thank you shrimp identified top volume as somewhere to improve on too
