New to wearing clothes and lost where to start
So throughout highschool we just had uniform, and I would mainly go out for sport and rarely go out for more social events, and so I could scrape by on the limited clothes I had.
However, now I don't have a uniform restriction for uni anymore and I'll probably be going out much more for things (and ofc uni), recently started taking care of my hair and whatnot, yet to look into skin, but I thought the clothes I wear and how I present myself is pretty important as well. And tired of not having smth to wear for various weathers and that I feel confident in.
Most of my stuff is geared towards winter clothing, so i struggle to put stuff together that's comfortable for the hotter days; I'm in Melbourne and it's a temperate environment, so you could have hotter middays in winter as well but chilly mornings. I'm usually on the sweatier side, I heat up easily even in winter, cos most places have heaters inside.
I understand that buying sort of random clothes or like "must haves" is pointless if you don't like wearing them, cos you'll just end up with a bunch of stuff you don't wear. Also I don't really "know my style" yet, but anything minimal and clean is nice. Logos or designs are fine as long as they still look minimal + clean (which is just preference)
If I could get any starting points, tips or words of advice on what I've written above that would be appreciated.
But also I was thinking for the hotter days, in my culture we often wear loose clothing with a longer top. But I like the pants part of it, the western equivalent to those are the baggy linen pants. How do you go about choosing what to wear on top of those and for footwear? I was thinking something like birkes, ofc other suggestions are appreciated.
Also just a general thing I don't really have any shoes to wear other than jogger, geared towards sport.
Ik this is long and sort of a rant but any help or pointers would be much appreciated.

Once you sort of have an idea of what looks good to you, you can start buying some "basics" for the looks you want. It's also easier for people to help suggest things if you have pictures on the look you're trying to achieve.
the more work you put upfront into thinking about it, the less you'll waste money on things that don't make you happy / help you express yourself
right okay, and is it okay to feel a bit uncomfortable when wearing smth new in public?
like smth you're not used to
absolutely
we are all beginners at one point with everything in our lives
another part of your question re: how do you know what to pair with baggy linen pants.
I think that's something that will start to make sense the more you look at photos/gather inspiration, and the more you try those looks. It's a little similar to cooking. There are combos that work well together, but not for everybody's taste, and sometimes unexpected combos work really well too, and theres nothing stopping you from just pairing two things that maybe only make sense to you.
Pairing birkenstocks with linen pants makes sense, so could pairing it with huaraches, loafers, fisherman sandals, etc. Each might fulfill the same idea (keeping your body cool / letting your skin breathe), but also give your outfit an entirely different vibe.
Same thing with your top. all sorts of things can work, but they all can fulfill different looks. Loose collared shirts, mesh tank tops, guayaberas, linen tees, the list can go on forever.

yeah I see what you mean, it just adds variety to a one simple piece of clothing
what are some other bottoms that are "airy"?
any pant with a wider cut can be airy, doesn't have to be linen
i've been able to wear jeans, chinos, even wool pants all in very very hot and humid temperatures (taiwan in the summer)
shorts are another
ah yeah makes sense, but wouldn't most of them look similar? Or is it the texture of the material that makes the difference?
shorts too but Im more used to shorts so wanted to ask about stuff I'm uncomfortable with.
ah ik you can have lengths in between full length and shorts
but what's a totally different summer look other than those two options? Or ig adjusting other clothes you can create different looks
Texture, color, design, silhouette all make a difference
Two options being shorts/pants?
There’s skirts/kilts
If you look through spring/summertime waywt, both normal and highlights here you’ll see a wide variety of stuff
You’ll get a way better idea of what’s out there that way than through text
It is a visual medium after all
ya ok got it, I reckon for hotter days i stick to airy pants or shorts and add variety through other clothes and by changing the the things you listed in pants/tops/footwear (texture, colour, design, silhouette etc...)
but defo get inspo from other peeps
