Game downloaded, finished, 0Bytes and no files at all
I have a weird problem. i already tried to ask the steam support but they said the only do support for users using the latest ubuntu π
So I want to install the game, it seems to work, but instantly finishes the download. When I run it, i get an error message saying that the game execution file is missing. I checked and the game folder is empty! Not a single file, even though Steam says the game was installed successfully. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times.
I have already checked the game files for errors via Steam, but I haven't found any. It says something like "Successfully verified 0 files"
I have already changed the download region and I have already cleared the download cache.
I have already removed the Steam Library restarted and readded it back and also used ujust fix-reset-steam.
I have already disabled proton support in steam settings and tried again.
What is really weird is that before installing, the window where i can choose the installation directory, even there it says 0Bytes size before installing.
I can install other games without a problem, but not this one. Its ARK Survival Evolved ...
I have taken some screenshots and am attaching them.
EDIT. The partition 2025 is a btrfs parition created and mounted like the bazzite docs article about shared btrfs partitions shows.

Solution:Jump to solution
The problem is solved by manualy selecting a version of proton for this special game before installing it. Then steam requests the normal windows files

if this was a shared btrfs partition, did Windows ever touch the files or folder in question yet?
I have installed the win btrfs drivers under windows and mounted it like the docs article shows. But i never realy used Windows and Steam together with that partition. I have write access/permission to the partition.
can you double check ownership of that folder?
ll /var/mnt/2025
and drill down into ll /var/mnt/2025/steamapps
as wellI finaly found the solution!
It realy has to do with this game. Or maybe the bug could happen to other games with linux support as well. This game had linux support back in the days but it got removed.
so for what ever reason steam thinks there is to this time a native version of the game and downlaods it. done. i can imagine the repositorys of the game developer are empty and it has 0 files. Dont know if the game developers are to blame and maybe did some wrong configuration or if it is a steam bug.

at the bottom with the Linux depots, they're empty as you suspected
if you want the linux build, you have to change branches to the
linuxnative
branchthanks for the help anyway @termdisc (Deck+PC)

via the
linuxnative
branch
I probably would never use that branch if they had to fragment it out though haha
oh so the linux version is still existing and its not empty?
only if you change branches apparently
ok very confusing and hard to solve lol
what breaks my heart is some regular people with linux or bazzite try to install that game and get the 0 files packet and then its not working for them and they blame linux or bazzite for sure
I just started the download and it's pulling the Win build.

no forced Proton
so hopefully it's not widespread
